Determiners, but before we discuss, let us

2. Unlocking of Difficulties/Words to Learn

3. Discussion Proper

Determiners
- Determiners are words that defines or
qualifies the meaning of a noun by
conveying such ideas and concepts as
quantity or certainty.
- A determiner indicates whether the
noun is referring to a definite or
indefinite component, to a component
belonging to a definite person or
thing, to a closer or more distant
component, to a particular number or
quantity as they show how many There are words that are being underlined
things or people, etc. Determiners ma’am.
‘express situation’ which is its main
function; they simplify and explain No ma’am!
what a noun is referring to.

Types of Determiners

Demonstratives -They are used to refer to

specific nouns that are either singular or
plural and are relatively far or near the
speaker.
This refers to a singular noun near the
speaker. These refers to a plural noun near the
speaker. That refers to a singular noun that is
farther away from the speaker.
Those refers to a plural noun that is farther
away from the speaker. When used as
determiners they are followed by the nouns
they modify.

Example: This is my laptop. (Demonstratives

used as a pronoun, subject of the verb 'is')
This laptop is mine. (Demonstratives used as
determiner varying the noun laptop.)

(The teacher calls a student to construct a

sentence using the determiner.)
4. Application

This time, let us have another activity class.

You will have the same group as what you
have lately on our first activity. Each member
of the group will be given 4 color sticks
representing the 4 types of determiners. Red
for Article determiner, blue for demonstrative
determiner, yellow for possessive determiner
and green for quantifier determiner. I am
going to paste sentences here on the board
and all you have to do is to identify what type
of determiner is being underlined in the
sentence by raising the colored stick that
represents it. Each group should raise the
same stick and if some members of the group
will raise the wrong colored stick, then there
is no corresponding point for that group. You
are given 5 seconds to read the sentence on
the board, after 5 seconds when I say up, you
raise the colored stick altogether.

Are you ready?

1. He is interested on the proposal.

2. The girl is riding a motorbike.
3. Is your sister available for tonight’s
event?
4. Those cats outside are mine.
5. Our rabbit is inside a handbag.
6. They watched several movies.
7. These mangoes are rotten.
8. There is enough food to feed
everyone.
9. Students have little knowledge of
nuclear physics.
10. He waited for a miracle.
