PREFACE
Grammar is at the core of any language, or rather the most
important tool that will never cease to exert its importance in
language learning. It is the most essential aspect to bring about
perfection in one’s writing.

Grammar has been my central subject and it has always been a

challenge to collect grammar worksheets for children. There are
hundreds of books available on this subject, yet I always felt the
shortage.

I now take a great pleasure to introduce a concise collection of

worksheets, all compiled into one single book, to give students a
wide range of practice, across all the topics. Great efforts have
been taken to create these practice sheets, specially to demarcate
them into progressive levels.

Each workbook includes more than 150 practice pages, with a

variety of exercises all with easy to follow directions. Every
concept is correlated to match the standards of CBSE and ICSE
boards.

Grammarism, a series of grammar practice books for classes one to

eight, is not just a must-have book for students but also for the
teachers. I sincerely hope these books would provide a great help
as intended.

With love and dedication,

Asha Poddar

no other fox but little red fox insisted he would jump into the water and
bite him.

Little brown duck said, “Don’t do that, in the middle of the river lives a

COUNTRY MOUSE

A Town Mouse and a Country

Mouse were friends. The Country
Mouse one day invited his friend
to come and see him at his home in the fields. The Town Mouse came and
they sat down to a dinner of barleycorn and roots.
The flavour was not much to the taste of the town guest and said with

Now, you should just see how I live! My larder is a regular place of
delicious food. Why don’t you visit me?”

larder opened and someone came in. The two Mice scampered off and
hid in a narrow and exceedingly uncomfortable hole. Presently, when all
was quiet, they tried out again. But someone else came in again, and off
they scuttled away. This was too much for the visitor.

a chance to sit by the window and see wonderful scenes outside the

window. Inside the bus we chatted and laughed all the time.

The bus stopped after a journey of two hours and we got down as if we

were imprisoned. There was a nice dhaba where we had lovely snacks

and soft drinks. After a while the bus started again and we were off to

our destination. We reached Mt.Abu in another two hours and we got

down happily. We enjoyed the bus journey a lot.

MY FAVOURITE SPORTS

● Which game
● Why this game
● when and where do you play
● Benefits of games
Games are the best part of our life. They enable us to

spend a good time with our friends and family. Of all

the games, cricket is my favourite game.

Usually on Sunday mornings, I play cricket. There are many boys and girls

in our society and we all gather and play cricket. I love to bat but rarely I

get a chance to bat and when I get that chance, I love it. There are some

children who really play very well and I learn from them. I am improving

day by day and one day I wish to play inter-state cricket. I love cricket the

most because it is a team game and I get a chance to interact with so

many children. It gives me such good exercise and energy. However there

are some other games that I play too. I love indoor games. Scrabble is my

favourite game. I generally win the game with my parents and that gives

me great joy.

All of us should play, both indoor and outdoor games. Games improve our

concentration as well as physical health. All work and no play makes Jack a

dull boy.

fire under control
It was early Sunday morning. I was relaxing in my balcony, playing with my

cube when suddenly I heard some screams. I panicked. I called my mom

and soon realized that fire had broken out in our neighbour’s house.

We rushed outside. People were running helter-skelter. Mom called up

the fire station at once and within fifteen minutes the fire brigade arrived.

All the members came out but one old auntie was trapped. We stood

there with our heart beating fast. Soon the firemen came and one of them

rushed inside and rescued her. Auntie was crying, trembling with

nervousness. However we comforted her. Fire was soon doused by the

firemen and they were highly praised by all. The chaos continued for some

more time but finally things got settled. We got back home.

A VISIT TO A HISTORICAL PLACE

Last Sunday our school arranged a visit to Agra to see the world famous

TajMahal. It is one of the seven wonders of the world. It is called the

Mughal Marvel. We boarded the train at 6:30 in the morning. We reached

Agra at 8.05 a.m. At the station we learnt that Agra is also known as the

“City of Taj”.

The great Mughal Emperor Shahjahan built the Taj Mahal in memory of his

beloved Queen MumtazMahal. It stands on the banks of river Yamuna. It

took about twenty years and was built by as many as 20,000 labourers.

Over Rs. 20 crores were spent on it at that time.

We were astonished to see the beauty of the monument, its carving, and

the gardens and fountains all around it. We spent the whole day there.

After that, we went around the city, did a lot of shopping, had a lavish

dinner and returned to our hotel. The next day we went to Jaipur to visit

many more historical places. Agra was the most wonderful experience.

EXPANSION OF A QUOTATION

A BAD WORKMAN ALWAYS BLAMES HIS TOOLS

This line means that if a carpenter does not know his job well he will give

some excuses. Most often he blames his tools, the design of the furniture

or the place he is working in.

Some people lack the skill but they don’t like to accept it. They keep giving

excuses or blaming things and people around them. However a talented

person makes use of his abilities properly and achieves good results. If he

makes a mistake, he will accept it and learn. He will never blame others or

his tools. In the long run, such people are successful. As a student, we

should study well. We should not behave like a bad carpenter. We should

not blame our teachers or our books for our bad results. Our own hard

work will bring success and joy.

● What is one quality that you admire the most?
Mom says I am a born sportsman and I think it’s true. I love sports.

Many would claim Cricket to be their favourite game and I am one of

them.

My liking for Cricket began with none other than the great Mr. Kohli,

ViratKohli. He is my favourite sports hero. He is a true genius at

Cricket. His achievements are not an easy task to be listed but I will try

to recall and mention a few.

Currently he is the captain of the Indian cricket team. He is an elegant

right-hand batsman. Virat Kohli is the first Indian to score a century on

world cup debut. He was given The Best Cricketer of the Year’ award

in 2012. He is also a Padma Shri and Arjuna award winner.

He is regarded as one of the best cricketers in the world. His

dedication and consistent practice inspires me the most. At a young

age of fifteen he started training and since then he has always been

very dedicated. I am very fond of him. I watch all his matches and

learn a lot from him.

MONKEY TROUBLE

Two cats – fighting over a loaf of bread – a monkey saw –agreed to settle
their dispute – divided into two equal halves – ate away the remaining
little piece – cats again fought for a larger share – the monkey ate bit by
bit – ran away- cats realized their foolishness

In a small village, there were many cats. They would take away food from

houses and run away. One day two cats picked up one big loaf of bread.

They came out of the village area and started dividing the loaf. As they were

doing so, one monkey was watching them. He offered his help. He got his

scale and divided it into half. On one side the bread was heavier so he ate a

bit and tried to make it equal. When he gave each of them, the cats were

still not happy. They again argued for a larger share. He again weighed the

loaf and ate away some parts to make them equal. Slowly he ate away the

whole loaf and climbed up the tree. He teased them for being foolish.

‘Never fight. Always share or someone else will take advantage,’ said the

monkey. The cats realized their mistake. They never fought again.

Moral – Never fight with each other.

A CLEVER CAP SELLER

Once there was a cap seller. His name was Karim. He went to the nearby

market every Sunday to sell his caps. He had many caps, white caps, red

caps, blue and black caps.

The market was quite far. He felt very tired and hungry. He decided to

have his food and rest for some time. He sat in the shade of a banyan tree,

had his food and lay down there, keeping his bag aside.

After a while when he woke up, he was shocked to find that all his caps

were here and there and most of them were up the tree. A troop of

monkeys had taken away his caps. He was almost in tears but he was

clever. He remembered his mother telling him that monkeys love to

imitate our actions. He stood up and threw his own cap in front of them.

The monkeys started chattering. The cap seller picked up the cap and

repeated the same action. Soon the monkeys, one by one, started

CREATIVE STORY WRITING

THE HAUNTED HOUSE

We were playing with our ball when suddenly it went high up in the air, and
struck an abandoned house. We rushed towards it to get our ball but it had
gone right in, through the window.

It looked very strange. Wild bushes and the grass was overgrown around
the house. Surprisingly the door was open so we went inside. The house
was covered in cobwebs. We decided to go further in to look for the ball.
When we got there, we saw a large hall with three rooms. One room had
an old bed and a dresser. The second room was a bathroom. The third
room was a living room. Our ball was nowhere to be found.

When we were going towards the kitchen, someone said in a heavy gruff
voice, “Hello.” We were so scared that we ran towards the door to go out.

We were almost at the door and the voice said,

“Don’t you guys want some candy?”

We turned around and saw a man with a king-size red candy, al long as the
man. We were all shivering with fear. Without any second thought we ran
out of the house. They said it was Mr. Bob’s ghost who died twenty years
back but his spirit lives there.

THE SHADOW

It was a beautiful evening. The sky was cloudy and a cool breeze blew

with occasional showers. It was evening time and we, my brother and I

decided to go for a stroll. We walked and talked so much as if we would

never get a chance to talk again!

It was getting dark. We got scared. We quickly turned back and walked

fast towards home. ‘We have come a long way, Ravi. Let’s walk faster,’

said my brother. He was very worried and scared. I tried to calm him but I

was also equally scared.

Suddenly we felt someone following us. We turned around but found only

one big black shadow. We ran fast. We knew it was a ghost as dada had

warned us about it.

We ran faster and reached home somehow. Mom was waiting at the

door. She hugged us both and we both were in tears.
