Topic Establishing the School Culture: Factors and Processes

Overview In this context, the best practices for shaping school culture for
professional educators are personal mastery, team learning, and
building a shared vision. Principles and theories on school culture shall
be included to prepare teachers to become school leaders and
managers. Further, various social institutions affects the school culture
and the learners’ performance. Teachers need to understand the
relationships and interconnections between and among these
institutions to promote varied activities for the betterment of all school
stakeholders that makes the actualization of both short-and long-term
objectives easier.
Targets/ At the end of 4-hour session, the participants shall have:
Objectives 1. Distinguished positive and negative culture.
2. Discussed the school culture, principles and theories on school
culture.
3. Determined the role of leadership in shaping school’s culture on the
process of change.
4. Explored the interconnection of the various institutions in relation to
education process.
5. Formulated an action plan on stakeholders/industry partners’
involvement toward quality education.
Content Activate
Outline 1. For 5-7 minutes, each participant will share its experienced in his
own school community using the theory of Urie Bronfenbrennerr.
TASK: How can theory of Urie Bronfenbrennerr help us better
understand school-community partnering that promotes student
development?
2. The participants will be grouped into five (5) to fill out a KWLH
chart on the examples of social institutions present in their
communities.

A 10-minute discussion /brainstorming will be given to the participants
to collaborate and share with their groupmates. Each group is allotted
for 5-minute time presentation.

to collaborate and share with their groupmates. Each group is allotted
for 5-minute time presentation

ACQUIRE: The facilitator will prepare lecture discussion so that the


participants can have their independent and interactive learning. (5
minutes per lecture discussion, 20 minutes for this task)

Lecture 6 How does my school fare? A SWOT Analysis

APPLY: Enumerate some the best practices for shaping school culture
and discuss the effectiveness of having a positive and/or negative
school culture on the learner’s performance as evidenced by some
research findings. The class will then formulate a mind
map/framework of the day’s session.

*They will meet the same groupmates and work on the SWOT analysis
incorporating their school’s strengths and weaknesses, showing the
interconnectedness of the social institutions in attaining the function of
schools. (10 minutes)
* From the previous task, the group can propose an Action Plan based
on the SWOT Analysis of their specific school/work area.
Target 1. Describe school culture and its positive and negative culture.
Activities 2. Explain the principles and theories on school culture.
3. Enumerate the role of leadership in shaping school’s culture on the
process of change
4. Describe the interconnections of the various social institutions in
relation to education process and the best practices for shaping
school culture.
5. Sharing an insights/reflection on SWOT analysis in their specific
school/work area.
