Course Description:
The course covers the anatomical structure and physiological processes
of the Vascualr,Peripheral and Integumentary Systems.

Objective:
1.Identify appropriate sites for venipuncture by strengthening knowledge
of the anatomy and physiology of the vascular,peripheral and
integumentary systems

Course Content:
1. Circulatory System with special emphasis on the peripheral areas:
Cephalic Vein, Basilic Vein,Median Vein and etc.
2. Integumentary System: Dermis, Epidermis,Hypodermis
1 hour Ethico-Legal Aspects in Intravenous Therapy  ppt presentation

Course Description:
This course presents the Laws,Rules and Regulations related to nursing
practice, ethico-legal responsibility of nurses, and the legal bases of IV
therapy training program of ANSAP.

Objectives:
1.Understand the ethico-legal implications of Intravenous Therapy within
the scope of nursing practice.
2.Understand the ethico-legal responsibilities of the nurse in IV Therapy
as mandated by law.

Course Content:
1. Legal basis (RA no.7164) Philippine Nursing Act of 1991
2. Legal basis (RA no.9173) Philippines and its implementing rules
and regulations
3. Nursing standards on IV Therapy and Safe Practice
4. Laws related to drugs i.e. RA 6675
5. Nurses duties and responsibilities in terms of ethico-legal aspect

Course Description:
This lecture is designed to effectively utilize the nursing process in
relation to IV Therapy
Objective:
1.Utilize the nursing process in the holistic care of patients undergoing IV
Therapy
2.Apply the focus charting in IV Therapy (FDAR method).
3.Become aware in importance of nurse’s documentation in IV Therapy

Course Description:
This course focuses on safe and effective administration of medication in
intravenous therapy.

Objectives:
1.Discuss nurses responsibilities and accountabilities on intravenous drug
administration.
2.Discuss the 12 Rights of Medication Administration.
3.Calculate flow rate and IV drug dosages in children and adults.

Course Content:
-Drug commonly used in IV Therapy
-Dosage and solution,computation and flow rate calculation
-Principles and 12 Rights of medication administration
-Procedure on Drug IV Push, incorporation to soluset and IV bottle.

Course Description:
This program is designed to enrich knowledge and understanding of the
participants on concept of fluid volume and electrolyte status.

Objectives:
1.Discuss problems and treatments commonly associated with fluids and
electrolytes imbalances.
2.Explain the need for corrective and replacement therapy in boy fluids
and electrolytes disturbances.

Course Content:
-Dynamics of fluids and electrolytes
-Fluid and electrolytes replacement therapy
-Symptoms resulting from electrolyte imbalances and nursing
interventions/corrective measures.

Course Description:
This course focuses on safe administration of blood and blood products.

Objectives:
1.Discuss the medications and management of blood and blood
components
2.Prepare administer and discontinue/dispose of blood and blood
products.
3.identify the risk, complications of blood and blood components
administration.

Course Content:

2. Specific guidelines on blood and blood component
administration: indications, composition and amount,specific
filter and duration, therapeutic measures for adverse reaction
and nursing considerations,blood expander,infusion equipments
1 hour Parenteral Nutrition *ppt presentation and

Course Description:
This lecture is concerned with the administration of nutrients
intravenously.

Objectives:
1.Identify the basic concept of total parenteral nutrition.
2.Prepare, administer and manages of patients on total parenteral
 nutrition.
3. Handle of many total parenteral nutrition.

Course Content:

1 hour Infection Prevention and Safety Compliance in IV Therapy *ppt presentation

Course Description:
This course focuses on the standards in the prevention of infection in IV
Therapy

Objectives:
1.Discuss the infection prevention and safety compliance in IV Therapy
2.Discuss the importance of the culture of safety in this area.

Course Content:
Hand hygiene, management of sharps,hazardous materials and waste,use
personal protective equipment (PPE) and infusion prevention and safety
compliance.
1 hour Venipuncture: An Art for Intravenous Therapy
Quality Management in IV Therapy

Course Description:
This course provides knowledge based on practical application of skills by
the IV nurse therapist

Objective:
1.Identify appropriate peripheral sites for venipuncture.

Course Content:
Sites of insertions,use of IVT devices/equipment/set, intravenous
infusions and solutions,techniques and art of taping and plastering

framework for providing safe IV therapy practice.

Objective:
1.Ensure that participants will be able to demonstrate and carry out all
the steps on each procedure safely and accurately.

Course Content:
-Standard Policies and Procedures: Step by step procdure in setting-up
inserting IV cannula utilizing dummy arm,changing and discontinuing IV
infusion
-Blood Transfusion: Step by step procedure in blood transfusion
preparation,changing and discontinuing.
-Medication administration: Step-by-step procedure in parenteral
nutrition preparation ,changing and discontinuing.
-Actual insertion of IV Cannula: Techniques and principles in IV insertion
