You can get t ahead of tme from the person who hires you, ox you can show up early and simply introduce yourself to a few people, You can always listen into Conversations and get some names; if you have an assistant itis ‘even easier. In a corporate or trade show environment, people offen wear name tags. Its best to pick someone easily recognizable because you will have fo find them quickly during ‘the show, possibly under bad lighting conditions. Look fr things You ean spot trom 2 istance lke colourtul shits, crazy hair styles or someone thet reminds you ef your mother inlaw When you have the name, you take @ large card and gently trace t in Cryptent using a pencil Tum over lust to couble- ccheck that it works. It ill make the whole effect move interesting es rast ‘people cor find punching numbers in a calculator to be all that emertaning You'll note that for every person that enters 2 number, | have joke or funny fine roady To prevent’ poopie from connecting the numbers on the ‘catculaor and George's name on the board, | do 2 few effects bbetore etarting the routine wth the calculator, The fink wil nat ‘be obvious until the very end. This provides @ powerful call beck and makes the revelaton that much stronger When you are ready te turn over the board, take your time and. point out each number so that everyone can realize wnat has happened. You wali see thet the revelation of the number is very powerful if | am writing on cardstock, | like to give the cards out at the end. Theee make for interesting mementos because they incorporate @ person's name. Plus, giving away or discarding your props is a subtle way to convey to the ‘auctence that you are not using any special apparatus. ‘Duat reality ‘A few people that I've shown this system to have tried to come ‘up with presentations based on dual realty. Basically, one part of the audience wil be shown the message one way. say as ‘numbers, the rest wil sce It a6 2 wore. This opens up the possbbilty for instant stooge end possibly even some siuaton comedy. It's not really my styl, but tm including $0 that ‘perhaps it wil help spars your creabvity ‘Some additional thoughts: Use cards to print individual letars (playing card eze or even letter sized cards for stage cisplay) then when you can give teach letter to each person on stage you can form a word, but ‘nen each il turn that letter upside Gown til form a number (Nice stage presentation to involve mukiple people) This number (ean be forced number, oF can lead to many options ‘You can use the Cryptext word, to form a numer that wil force you aword ina book Choose a word. see what number it forms, ise that number to pick a page, ane and a ord in a bbock (For Example: GEORGE = 3921098) This can be broken ‘down to page number: 392, the 10th Ine, ana 3+9 = 12 which is the 12th word in that ine inthe book} Use any force of a time, for example, f you nave the classic “Portect time! or similar gimmicks, you can force @ tne for example: $45 can form the name GUY You can eta person ‘change the time on a watch, then to stop an click back the knob. Then you force the name GUY out of many name cards ‘Then you ask the spectater, what time did he stop the watch, he ‘says: 6148, you turn the card with the name GUY to show itis the exact rame!
