Activity Number 1
Major Crops of the Philippines and their Geographical Distribution

Introduction

Despite of the arising industrialization in the country, Philippines is still an agricultural country

which is known for the extensive production and supply of various crops over the world such as rice,

corn, coconut, banana, mango, pineapple, cassava, coffee and sweet potato.

Furthermore, numerous crops are being grown from the different part of the country. And it is

significant to have knowledge and awareness what crops are being produced in a particular place or

region to finally identify the variables that affects why it is being grown in that place, considering;

climate, topography, ethnicity and etc. Moreover, knowledge in major crop geographical distribution helps

us to evaluate on how a particular production of crop could affect the current state of economy.

Thus, a complete knowledge with the aforementioned variables would help a student like me--

that pursuing an agriculture related career to extend my present knowledge and serves as a reference for

my future researches.

Objectives

1. To Identify the major crops in the Philippines by region

2. To Identify the volume of production by crops by region

3. To compare the volume of production of the major crops in the Philippines with other countries in
South East Asia using the latest data from the internet.

Methodology

1.The student filled up Table 1, 2 and 3, and use the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics or Philippine
Statistics Authority and the Food and Agriculture Organization as the official source of this activity
and other source of information will be evaluated.
