4-H FASHION

STORYBOARD

WHAT IS A FASHION
STORYBOARD?

• Industry-inspired method of
displaying original designs

• “Tells the story” of the


designer’s idea

• Include original illustrations,


flats, as well as inspiration
materials.
FASHION STORYBOARD
PURPOSE

• Create original designs based on knowledge of the


elements and principles of design.

• Provide the opportunity to display original designs


in a storyboard format as used in the fashion
industry.

• Enhance visual communication skills.

• Develop knowledge of the career responsibilities


of a designer and a fashion illustrator
DESIGN BRIEF

2008-2009
• June Heat - Design shirts, over blouses, crop or shell tops and easy
trousers/pants/divided skirts for those unexpectedly warm June summer days.
2009-2010
• Retro Fashion – Research fashion from the 1970’s. Select a look from this
decade and create an updated original design with modern influences.
2010 – 2011
• Natures 4 Elements – Fire, Water, Earth or Wind – From crashing waves to
dust storms, take your cue from nature! The sky is the
limit in creating a design that embodies one, or even all
2011 – 2012
• Around the World - Use your fashion passport to explore
people, places, culture and fashion around the world. Use what
you learn about other parts of the globe to inspire your creation.
2011 FASHION STORYBOARD
GUIDELINES HIGHLIGHTS

• A 4-H member can only enter one storyboard


• Fashion Storyboard must include original illustration & flats, as well
as support material that have influenced the design.
• Mounted on 20 X 30” foam core or mat board – can be vertical or
horizontal and can be any color
• Fashion Storyboard label must be affixed to the back of the board.
• Storyboard is judged without an interview.
• Categories – Wearable, Accessory, Jewelry, Non-Wearable and Pet
Clothing
• Each Storyboard will be evaluated based on the 4-H Fashion
Storyboard Score Sheet.
SO HOW DO I GET
STARTED!

•Think about people, places, culture and fashion from around the world.
Inspiration
•Research a specific country or culture.

•Take an idea from your research and begin work on your original design.
•Take a design that you have created and add elements from the country or culture that you
