MASS COMM DINNER 2019 SCRIPT

L: Good evening, everyone! Welcome to the 2019 Mass Communication


Recognition Dinner. My name is Laura Munson and I am a junior IMC
major.

G: Hello everyone, MY NAME is Gabby Gardner and I am a


sophomore IMC major.

L: And we will be your hosts this evening!

G: Tonight’s theme is Golden Days of Media, a celebration of the many


ways in which mass media have revolutionized mass communication.

L: From the days of the printing press, to the advent of radio and film,
all the way to the smartphones you have in your hands, scrolling through
social media right now. (Please laugh) It’s okay, folks! We are part of
media history. G: “We see you back there”

G: Speaking of which, if you’re posting pictures of your golden


moments tonight, join us in using the hashtag, #WUMCOM19. That’s
all-caps, W-U-M-C-O-M-19. (create a slide with hashtag)

L: Feel free to enjoy our photobooth area as well! (Gesture to


photobooth) PAUSE You’re all looking completely gorgeous so you
may as well capture some fun memories! You’ll be able to find photos
from tonight on the Winthrop Mass Comm Facebook page.

G: Alright everyone, take out your phones now, take a picture of your
table, your friend next to you, or you can take a picture of us, on
Snapchat, and use our Mass Comm Dinner Geo-filter we have created,
to send to all of your friends or post on your story.
L: But first, we would like to give a quick shout-out to the stars of this
evening. Would all of the graduating seniors here tonight please stand
and be recognized. (Seniors stand up) These students have come a long
way since arriving at Winthrop University! Please give them a round of
applause! (YAY).

G: And now, please give a warm welcome to our department chair, Dr.
Guy Ree, who will give the opening remarks

~ OPENING REMARKS ~

L: And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The number one
reason many of you came tonight! It’s time for the food!

G: To make sure things move smoothly, our student ushers will lead
you, table by table, to the buffet area, (Point to indicate where the buffet
is) beginning with the tables to our far right.

L: But feel free to go up and get seconds after everyone has had a
chance to get their meal. We know we’ve got plenty of starving college
students here.

G: In the meantime, look out for the ushers and enjoy the music
selection we have put together for your listening pleasure this evening!

~FOOD TIME~

L: Hello ladies and gentlemen, I hope you all enjoyed the food that our
classmates selected for you all this evening. Thank you to Sodexo for
working with our student planners. It is time turn our attention to the
main event, the annual awards

G: We begin with tonight’s academic awards. Please welcome back Guy


Reel, presenting this year’s initiates into Kappa Tau Alpha the national
honors society for communication students, as well as the Top Scholar
Award!

L: Please welcome Mark Nortz to present the Friend of the Department


Award.

~FRIEND OF THE DEPT~

L: Would the representatives of our department student organizations


please make your way to the stage.

G: Through organizations on campus, students have the opportunity to


meet and work alongside their peers, network, and gain experience and
insight into their chosen fields.

welcome Brooke Frierson, Zuri Anderson, and Shannon Simmons to the
stage, along with Ken Lemon, who will be making a special recognition.

L: We’d like to take a moment to ask for your feedback on this event, so
please fill out the comment cards you’ll find on the tables. It will be a

G: As we reach the end of our evening, we would like to recognize our


classmates for all the hard work and meticulous planning that has gone
into this event! (APPLAUSE) PLEASE STAND.

L: We would like to also thank our professor, Emmanuel Nwachukwu,


as well as Dr. Padmini Padwardhan, Professor Bonnye Stuart, and Dr.
Guy Reel for helping us plan this event, as well as our golden star of the
mass comm office, Ms. Bert Daniels for all that she’s done to assist us.
We couldn’t have done it without you all! (APPLAUSE)

G: To all the students, media professionals, and friends who have come
out tonight, it’s been a pleasure being your hosts and we hope it’s been a
truly GOLDEN evening.
