Indonesia Socio Cultural Diversity
Indonesia, one of the archipelago state in the Asia, has so many island inside of it. Total ,
Indonesia has seventeen thousand five hundred and four ( 17504 ) islands, where five thousand
seven hundred and seven ( 5707 ) already have its name , include three hundred and seventy four
( 374 ) islands in river (this data and information is from Wikipedia). Indonesia also has many
population of human that live on those land. Because of this fact, Indonesia is the world’s fourth
most populous nation (based on data in Wikipedia). With its many population, Indonesia become
the country that has many culture that every culture has its own unique. Just for your
information, Indonesia has total of two hundred and fifty million people who live in this country.
So we can imagine, there are so many difference between all of them. But, the difference means
nothing because Indonesia has symbol “Bhineka Tunggal Ika” that mean even there are
difference between us, we still be one as Indonesia. So, the difference make this country become
more beautiful. And there are so many things I would like to share with you in the next
paragraph about the beauty of cultural in Indonesia.
First, I would like to tell you about Indonesian history. Indonesia ( the name of
Indonesia) has meaning Indian Island, was coined by an Englishman, J. R. Logan, in Malaya in
1850. But , before that Indonesia also has another name called Hindia Belanda when Indonesia
was colonized by Netherlands about 350 years. When Indonesia was still colonized, the people in
Indonesia still divide in to regency. So they never succeed to defeat their enemies. In 1928, the
historical moment happen. In those year, “Sumpah Pemuda” was announced. After “Sumpah
Pemuda” was announced, the people in Indonesia gathered to became one to fought enemies.
And then in 1945, Indonesia was free of colonialism. And the name of Indonesia was about to
know in every people in this country or the other country in the world.
Then the second, Indonesian people are mostly very kind to other people. It is true not all
of them are kind, but many people in this country are very kind, especially to other people who
come from other cities in Indonesia or the other country. There are many reason about it. First,
Indonesia people are likely easy to smile to other people. Even if they don’t know each other.
Then, they are likely to interact with other people near them in everywhere or every time. Just
because Indonesian people have a different culture in every cities they coming from, doesn’t
mean that they don’t like to communicate or interact with other people they find in everyplace.
And then, Indonesian people are likely to help others. For example if there are a disaster, like
earthquake and tsunami in Palu. Every people in Indonesia try to help with their way, using
money or other things that could help people in there. This is show us that Indonesian people are
very kind to other even they are coming from different cities, different islands or different
culture.
And the third I want to share with you, Indonesia is a big country that has many cultural
inside of it. In Indonesia, every place has its own culture. So you can imagine, that Indonesia has
many different cultural in this country. For example, In Politeknik Keuangan Negara STAN, the
students are coming from different cities and islands in Indonesia. There are from Java, Sumatra,
Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and also from Papua. But, with those difference doesn’t make them
divided but make them united. And they also speak in different language because every cities or
provinces in Indonesia has a different language. Despite of the different language, they speak
Indonesian language for communicate with others. At this point we can conclude, Indonesian
language is very important for Indonesian people because it help them to communicate with
other people in their life who come from other cities or province in Indonesia.
And the last is every cities in Indonesia is has different tradition and habit. The tradition
in Indonesia should make Indonesian people proud. This is because the tradition in Indonesia
only happen and only can be found in this country. The tradition of every cities is unique. For
example, “Ritual Tiwah” in Kalimantan Tengah, the tradition which is doing by Suku Dayak for
person who was died for a long time. Then, “Dugderan” in Semarang. This tradition is happen
when Ramadhan is coming soon. This tradition has some symbolic icon, that is called “Warak
Ngendok”. And there are still many tradition in Indonesia that only happen in Indonesia. So,
Indonesian people should take care of the tradition and of course they will proud of it.
Based on the paragraph above, Indonesia is a big country that has a lot of culture inside
of it. With its different culture, Indonesia become more beautiful and unique. At the end, the
difference cultural doesn’t make Indonesia bad, but it makes Indonesia become wonderful
country in the world. So, Indonesian people should take care of Indonesian culture and proud
that Indonesia has a lot of culture.
