INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION REPORT

INTRODUCTION

In taking a course of COM540 Media Law, Regulation and Ethics, I and fellow classmates
had to do this group project which is Service Learning Malaysia - University for Society
(SULAM). This program was started in order to spread awareness and information in our
community with the hope that it can help the people to be aware of the cyberbully that need to be
avoid to take care of their mental health and prevent them from becoming a victim of this issue.
The program encourages people especially students to make certain thing to avoid bullying such
as cyberbullying.

Why this issue is highlighted because since most of us are staying at home during the
pandemic, for sure that many of us really rely on gadgets to communicate and indirectly the issue
of cyberbullying is on the rise among us. As a result of the pandemic going on in our country, we
are unable to directly hold the program at certain locations such as schools. Which is why the
program was held through Google Meet and Youtube which allows the audience to safely
participate the program while staying at home and not endanger their health.

Throughout the program, there five of us in the creative bureau worked hard to give the
best for the participants, me as a person that in charge of making a design for posting on
Instagram, it really gives me a very good experience because indirectly it can also be beneficial
in terms of expanding my knowledge in this creative field.

Honestly, there is no easy task to succeed in a project and there are definitely many
challenges and trials that we all have to face whether emotionally or physically and during the
weeks before the program started it had been full of excitement and nervousness at the same
time. Despite the many challenges we all face, we are still able to make this program a success
and we are very proud of the achievements we have all achieved.
What I have gained from my participation?

I have learned several new things, thanks to the program that we established. One of the things I
gained from the program is how to effectively use our known skills to increase the quality of the
program. One of the known skills that we use to the program is how to make the content look
interesting to watch by audience using information gathering from trustworthy sources. As we all
know that are many information does not being spread regarding cyberbully. Which is why in
order to ensure our audience get the most truthful information regarding cyberbully we made
proper research on each of the sources we use to prevent any false information from being
spread. Besides that, in order to properly enhance the program, I learned that I need to express all
the information that I supposed to present in an exciting way to prevent the audience or
participants from getting bored of our educational postings pictures and video. The method used
to improve the quality of the video includes using proper pronunciation, give the audience a
visual image of the points I elaborated through images, and keep the video to a reasonable length
so that I would not cause the audience to feel bored because a long educational postings can be
counterproductive. By using this method, I able to deliver the messages effectively and
efficiently.

The difficulties we’ve met

In this group project I have investigated in many point of views, but I always felt that it is very
difficult to pick up the information from my classmates. How to find appropriate ideas which
could help us to have an overview of the main concepts we are going to talk about is not an easy
task. For example, before we start, I went through many ideas about the designs, however, some
of us including me are too focused on our designs, and again some of us just discuss it from a
narrow perspective. We exchanged our thoughts on each ideas and we have selected which one is
good to be used, but there some miscommunication happened between my team leader and me
which was about the poster designs that I do not tell him earlier and plan it last minute. Activity
design is another challenge for us. Since our bureau is one of the important backbone in this
program, we really care about all the ideas and designs that will be shown to the audience. I tried
to come up with appropriate content which are not only interesting but also incorporate the
abstract conceptions. However, when we discussed about the ideas, actually I found it is not
really hard to design and create something which connect to what bureau content had given. I
looked for the examples from Google, Pinterest, and I do checked on any social media’s account
that doing the same thing like we do. I really appreciate everyone’s helpful suggestions on
designing activities. As the project is a group project instead of an individual project, it
emphasized more on group work rather than individual work. We need to make compromises
when we confronted with differences such as different ideas, different opinions and different
perspectives on a particular question. I do sent my designs during the preparing time. We
exchanged our views on our understanding of the creativities and collaboratively came up with
our approaches to do this and techniques to implement in our project. Thanks to Minju, Khai,
May and Yus, they helped me a lot in the project and indirectly I learnt a lot from them.

Self-reflection

I am very lucky to cooperate with bureau creative’s member in our group project, they are great
companions who always refreshed my mind and enlightened my creativity during our group
work. As we have five people in our bureau, we came up with the idea that all of us
collaboratively made. I have prepared a lot for our group, but during the process, I went through
the content quickly and sometimes lack of explanation. The information and orders given were
not appropriate. In the future I should pay much attention to instructions and not at will change
the idea that has been set by other members. I will try to overcome that kind of attitude and be
more open on accepting an ideas from all the members in our future project.
CONCLUSION

By the end of this project, I'm in a team that felt really proud of what I've achieved in this
program. In this project, I had many chances to use my skills to make this event a success, such
as collecting knowledge about cyberbullying. This project also provided me with an opportunity
to explore something that I rarely have ever been able to do, helping to spread awareness among
our communities, particularly among young people, while staying at home. Since some of our
homes are located in the red zone, some of us feel helpless and depressed because we don't know
what we can do to help change the current condition of Covid19 because we are in a state where
we need to stay at home to minimize the risk of being infected. This project has given us a way
to help make a difference, such as doing this virtual program.

Moreover, I also consider this program a success because our targeted community which
consist of teachers will help use the knowledge from our educational video to teach their student
more about how to avoid from getting cyberbully and the risk of cyberbullying towards students
mental health. This will result in our educational video getting a bigger audience resulting in
more people putting an effort to spread safety and awareness in using a social media. I honestly
feel like through this program we were able to help reduce the risk of many people from getting
bullied which will result in many lives being saved in terms of mental health.

I honestly hope that more people will join our community so that one day we can reach a
point where we can overall live our days without any fear from using a media as our platform to
communicate since we already took the necessary measure to prevent us from getting cyberbully.
In addition, I hope there are so many improvements on our next project together especially
through our communication and interaction between us.
