6.4.1.1 ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES IN REPLACING FUEL INJECTION PUMPS

EXPLANATION OF MAINTENANCE
6.4.2.1 About the Amount of Blowby Gas

1. Outline
• Crankcase internal pressure is measured.
• Reference = 200 mmAq or less (This data is tentative, which will be changed depending on market
conditions.)
• Measuring points = Refer to the figure below.

2. Procedures
• Remove plug marked with (1) PT1/4 (P/N: HF500613000) attached to side cover of No.14 cylinder on left bank
of engine.
• Connect the connector and simplex tube (vinyl tube) through tapered thread holes, and measure internal
pressure with water column or manometer.
• Replace plug after completion of measurement.

3. Measuring Precautions
• Check breathe for clogging, and visually check the amount of gas from blowby outlet hose (deviations among
4 measurements). Clean when necessary.

6.4.2.2 About Boost Pressure Measurement

1. Measuring points
Condensate drain copper pipe (6 mm dia) in crankcase at left bank of engine. (Refer to Figure 1.)

2. Measurement
Connect simplex tube (vinyl tube), and measure with Bourdon tube.

3. Measurement judging criterion

2
With±0.02 MPa (±0.2 kgf/cm ) of data in Table 1.

• Boost pressure can also be monitored with personal computer connected.

2
Unit of boost pressure is kgf/cm when monitored with personal computer.

4. Measuring precautions
Make measurement after cleaning or replacing air cleaner.
2
If there is a difference of 0.5 kgf/cm or more between Bourdon tube pressure and personal computer display
pressure, there is a possibility that boost sensor is defective or rubber hose between engine and boost sensor is
punctured. Make inspection.

50 1670 0.076 0.74

6.4.2.3 About the Amount of Oil Consumption

1. Reference level
The amount of oil consumption is greatly influenced by engine output (load). Therefore, the amount of oil
consumption is evaluated by the ratio of oil consumption to fuel consumption.
Oil consumption (L/O) ÷ Fuel consumption (F/O) or less 0.3 %

2. Measuring method and precautions

1) About the amount of fuel consumption
• The amount of oil feed is accurately recorded by using a scale at fuel tank and a feed meter at a tank
lorry.
2) About the amount of oil consumption
• Confirm that the engine is level.
• Oil is fed up to high level of the oil level gauge. At the next oil feeding, the remaining oil level is measured
with a level gauge. As a result, the amount of oil consumption can be determined from its difference.
Change rate of oil amount: 1180 cc/mm
• To measure the amount of oil, wait at least one hour after engine stopping in order to make oil level
stable.
3) Calculation, etc.
• Determine the ratio of (1) to (2).
• Feed the fuel and oil at the same timing.
