TIME: 1 HOUR 15 MINUTES

INSTRUCTIONS: ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

1. Study the figure 1.2 below that shows water in the test tube being heated
at point A and answer questions below;

(a) Describe what the figure above is trying to show or depicting. [2]
(b) By what process does the heat travel from A to the ice? [1]
(c) Give a reason for your answer. [1]
(d) Explain what will happen to the block of ice and why? [2]
2. (a) Draw and label the parts of a transverse wave. [3]
(b) The wavelength of the wave produce by a vibrator of the frequency of
10 Hz is 2cm.
(i) What is the velocity of the wave? [2]
(ii) How long do they take to travel 150cm. [2]
(c) Define a wave. [2]

3. (a) 20 cm of gas is collected at a pressure of 80cm of mercury. Calculate its


pressure if it expanded to 40cm.

(b) Convert the following from Kelvin to Celsius:

(i) 0 Kelvin
(ii) 272 Kelvin

(iii) 373 Kelvin

(c)

(e) An open beaker of hot water was put on the pad of wool.
(i) Describe how it can lose heat.
(ii) How would you minimize heat loss?
