Amazon has used few e-business models as they focus on customer value and affordability.
They started from online retailing, also did e-commerce partnerships where they earn revenue
by these partnerships through fixed earnings, commissions etc. It also offers another
important model at Enterprise level which is the affiliate program known as Amazon
Associates.

All of this can be concluded as all the models of Amazon come in “Pure Play”. As they have
always been loyal to online retailing and even now, they never opted for any brick-and-
mortar stores. From the purchases to customer service, everything about Amazon is online.

Amazon can use the following performance metrics to measure progress for growth and
customer service objectives:

 They can check Web Analytics. Look for number of visitors on the website.
 Number of visits, activities, comments etc.
 Check sales percentage
 New services/products offered
 Customer engagement, feedback, complaints, etc.
 No. Of registrations and purchases.

Whether it is online or offline, both models have to work in the same way somehow. While
differentiating themselves, they have to offer best value in every way that makes it difficult
for others to compete. E-business models have to create a competitive edge with excellent
customer value. They have to build the trust of offering good value that customers can trust
them since e-business mostly have no physical life. So, having that level of trust and value for
customers is important in case of online retailing as it makes that different than others image.

Amazon has always been customer focused and that has been the motive that earned them
profits. They want to facilitate the customer market as much as they can for which they
partner with others, introduce many new products etc. So, in my opinion, the strategic
objective can be the competitive position which they already have and they just have to be
consistent with that. Success can be measured through orders, customer retention, current
customers and sales of products or new products.
