Submitted in partial fulfillment

of the requirements of

EDU 414 – Classroom Management

This management plan is set for a general education third-grade classroom. This plan will lay out
how our classroom will be run from the time the children enter the classroom to the time they
leave and everything in between.

Classroom Goals

1. The children will create a safe environment in the classroom.

2. The children will also be able to take action on their mistakes and learn from them.

3. The teacher and supporting staff will create a space for children to talk to us.

4. Children will be model citizens in and out of the classroom.

Guidelines for Success

1. The children will be informed that the classroom is a place to make mistakes.

2. The class will be respectful of all people regardless of race, religion, or sexual

orientation.

3. The children and I will take responsibility for our actions.

4. The classroom will be a safe place for communicating with each other.

5. Good behavior will be praised and modeled; bad behavior will be discussed and dealt

with when appropriate.

6. Disagreements are allowed in the classroom, but we will be respectful when talking about

them.

Classroom Rules

1. Listen when your teacher is talking.

2. Follow directions quickly.

3. Respect others, respect yourself, and respect your school.

4. Raise your hand to speak.

5. Be safe, be kind, be honest.

Consequences for Classroom Rule Violations

1. Each child will have a clothes pin with their name on it.

2. Every day each student will start with their pins on the green light.

3. When a child does not follow the rules, their clip will be moved to yellow.

4. Each time the child is moved to yellow, there will be an explanation given.

5. If the child does not follow the rules again, their clothes pin will be moved to red and

there will be a phone call home. If the child is able to follow the rules, they can be moved

back to green.

6. If a child ends up on red light for a week straight, there will be a parent-teacher meeting

held for the child's behavior that week.

Student Jobs

1. Tour Guide- Stands at the front of the line and leads the class wherever we go.

2. Doorman/woman- Holds the door open for the class to enter/exit rooms. (2nd in line)

3. Librarian- Helps keep the classroom library organized.

4. Electrician- Turns off the lights whenever we leave the classroom and turns them back on

when the class returns.

5. Supplies Distributor- Passes out any papers I need passed out for classwork or to take

home.

6. Collector- Collects all classwork for the week.

7. Mail Carrier- If I need to send anything to the office, they will take it for me. If I need

anything picked up, they will go get it.

8. Substitute- This person does the job of anyone who is absent. If no one is absent, they do

any little task I may ask them to, so they do not feel left out of a classroom job.
Classroom Procedure

1. Students will be greeted with a handshake that we made up at the beginning of the year.

2. The children will unpack their bags and place them into their cubbies.

3. Once that is finished, the children will check their job for the week.

4. Then they will sit at their desks for attendance.

5. Morning work will be provided and then the children can work on this after attendance.

6. Then we will listen to morning announcements and do the pledge.

Lateness

1. If a child is late, they will go to the office.

2. Depending on where we are in the class, I will either give them their handshake or I will

give them an air five.

3. The children are expected to get their books out for the lesson we are on by asking their

seat neighbor kindly.

Activities

1. Morning Work

2. Guided Reading

3. Independent Reading

4. Weekly Writing in Journals

5. Writers Workshop

6. Group Work

7. Specials

Assignments:

1. The assignments for the day will be provided on the whiteboard under the date.
2. Long term assignments will be on the class calendar in the front of the room.

3. Homework will be listed on the opposite side of the whiteboard.

Turning in Assignments

1. The children will put their completed homework in the homework tray.

2. Their completed morning work will be put in the morning work tray.

3. All classwork will be collected by the Collector of the week.

4. Long term assignments will be handed directly to me.

5. When the long-term assignments are handed to me, the children will receive a sticker to

put on the desk, so I know they handed it in.

Returning Assignments to Students

1. I will give the students work back in a timely manner.

2. The children will get each paper back with corrections.

3. Each long-term assignment will be handed back with a rubric and a brief explanation on

things they did well and things they can do better on.

Late, Missing or Incomplete Assignments

1. Each late assignment will come with a letter explaining why it is late.

2. There will only be 3 late assignments per month.

3. The fourth will not be accepted as a grade but is still expected to be turned in.

4. Long term assignments will only be accepted one day after the due date with a 2-point

deduction.

Returning from Absence

1. When arriving to class after an absence there will be a folder in your cubby that will have

all of your missed work. This missed work can be explained during independent work

times.

2. The children will have two days upon arrival to complete the assignments in the folder.

3. If a child misses a test, they will have to make an appointment with me so they can make

up their test.

Communication Procedures with Parents/Guardians

1. Parents will have weekly emails on what is being done in class and what should be done

at home.

2. There will be biweekly checkups with the parents on the phone to explain how the

children are doing in the classroom and express any concerns.

End of the Day

1. At the end of each day, we will say either something that made us happy today or

something we learned.

2. Then we will pack up and get into our lines for walkers, bus riders, and parent pickup.

3. Then while the children are waiting for their bus to get called, we will play with a small

foam ball. The students must pick a spot around the room and not move their feet. If they

drop the ball or move their feet, they are out.

4. Then I will high-five or low-five each child, as well as give them a compliment on their

way out of the classroom.
