What This Module is About
Good day learners! You must be excited to start our new lesson for this
week. In this module, you will learn about different terms related to circles. It is
more exciting because you will also draw your own circles using a compass.
The activities will help you draw and understand better about circles.
In this module, you will be able to use compass to draw circles with different
radii and be able to identify terms related to circles.
What I Know
1. A closed plane figure made up of line segments that are joined together.
3. It is a 9-sided polygon.

2
What is It
A circle is a set of all points in a plane with the same distance from a certain point
called center. The center is the name of the circle.
What’s More
Use the circle at the right in answering the activity. Write your answer on the
blank provided.
1. The circle is named as ________. G
2. OR is a _________. N

What’s New
Draw as many circular objects as you can using the eight circles below.
What Is It
6
To draw a circle using a compass:
Solution:
Step 1: Use a ruler to set the distance from the point of the compass to the
pencil's lead at 4 cm.
Step 2: Place the point of the compass at the center of the circle.
Step 3: Draw the circle by turning the compass through 360º.

What’s More
A.
1. radius is 3 cm.
2. with center C.
3. with radii CA and CR.
4. with diameter AR.
5. with chord SE.
B.
1. diameter is 7 cm.
2. with center L.
3. with radii LO and LV.
4. with chord EY.
5. with an inscribed angle VOS.

What I Have Learned
2. The basketball court has a center circle where players start the game through
jump ball. That circle has a standard measurement of 15feet in diameter. The two
othercircles are free throw circles, each measuring 7 feet in radius. Which circle in
the basketball court covers a larger area? Why?
15ft
7ft 7ft

What I Can Do
1. Draw a radius or a diameter from the given point. Use a ruler. Look at the example.

Summary
A circle is the set of all points in a plane with same distance from a
certain point. This point is called the center of the circle.
A chord is a line segment joining two points on the circle.
Diameter is a chord that connects two points on the circle and passes
through the center of the circle. Every diameter is a chord.
A radius is a line segment from the center of the circle to any point on
the circle. The radius of a circle is one-half the diameter.
A central angle is an angle formed by two radii.
An inscribed angle is an angle whose vertex is on the circle.
To draw a circle.
