Wireless Communication Adapter Tool Setup

The new Wireless Communication Adapter will connection. The abbreviated procedure to make the
initially be available only in North America during change is shown here. The final authority for
January 2005. The details are as follows: information should be the Service Manual.

Wireless Communication Adapter: Pt. No. 261-3363 Reset the Cat ET preferences, that is similar to changing
the preferences from the earlier CA I to the CA II.
Availability outside North America will commence Insert the PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card
during the second quarter of 2005. International Association) card in the laptop computer as
shown in the example below.
There are significant opportunities with this new tool:

For example; when troubleshooting a tractor performance

problem when operating in a mine. The technician can
run checks while sitting on a hill looking down on the
machine. This means minimal disruptions to machine
operations.
The technician can be in a vehicle that is following the
machine. Conversely; if the machine is in the shop, the
technician can troubleshoot using Cat ET sitting at a
desk.

A further possibility is that multiple machines can be

checked using Cat ET without the technician moving
from his/her position (with multiple Wireless
Communication Adapters).

Communication Adapter Mounting

The adapter is secured to the outside of the machine
using four magnets as shown below. The adapter is
protected against the ingress of water for outside use.

Load the PCMCIA software from the CD (supplied with

the tool) into the PC.
Mount the unit on the outside of the vehicle or engine for
line of sight transmission up to 500 feet. For greater
distances, a extended range antenna is available.
Connect the cable to the Service Tool Connector and the
Communication Adapter. Power for the tool is supplied
from the Service Tool Connector.
The Wireless Communication Adapter PC software and
the flash file will eventually be included with the Cat ET
program.
