1) Research A Project Management Method Such as Agile And Rup And How
Organizations Use It
Agile was developed for projects requiring significant flexibility and speed and is
comprised of “sprints” - short delivery cycles. Agile may be best-suited for
projects requiring less control and real-time communication within self-motivated
team settings. Agile is highly iterative, allowing for rapid adjustments throughout a
project. The main benefit of the Agile approach is that it helps teams to be ready
for dynamic and unpredictable project development scenarios. An advantage of
Agile is that it helps teams to regularly assess how well the project is going
throughout the project's lifecycle. The Agile approach does not have distinct
phases in its development; instead, a team goes through a series of iterations that
are made up of steps. Software teams that embrace agile project management
methodologies increase their development speed, expand collaboration, and
foster the ability to better respond to market trends[ CITATION Art \l 1033 ].
Unlike Agile, RUP (Rational Unified Process) is used mostly in the area of web
application development. It is often used for developing web applications and
websites. Rational Unified Process (RUP) provides several benefits and tools that
can be used throughout the software development process[ CITATION Eli \l 1033 ]. These
tools include templates (such as HTML or web templates) and examples from
other projects that the software developer can adopt. RUP is made up of the
following four phases.
Inception Phase: In this phase, software developers describe the scope of the
development project as well as a definition of the business case. The
business case will usually provide specific details about the business.
Elaboration Phase: In this phase, the software developers outline in detail all
the features of the system. For example, John (as the customer) will be given
a complete outline of all the different things that the system will be able to
do.
Construction Phase: In this phase, the design and source code of the
application are developed.
Transition Phase: In this phase, the software developers bring the completed
software solution to the customer. In our example, this is the point at which
John will receive his working system.
Project integration management means tying together all of the other aspects
involved in a project to make it a success. Integration management relates to the
project life cycle in that it is done in all of the project life cycle phases. As the
project progresses, integration management becomes more focused. Integration
management relates to stakeholders because it requires the project manager to
know all of the project stakeholders, to know their interests and concerns about the
project, and to manage relationships with them. Integration management pulls
together information from all of the other knowledge areas

A well-planned and executed project combines various key elements, such as the
selection of the right Project Manager. This is a critical position which requires a
person who is highly qualified and experienced in project management. He/she
also needs to be detail oriented, and must have a good communication and
technical skills to deal with team members and stakeholders. In most situations the
project manager needs to be ready when facing a problem, by knowing how and
when to negotiate. Good project management entails proper definition of the tasks
and the ability to manage and organize people. Finally, in order to have a well-
planned and executed project, there is a need to have an organized and clear
documentation form the start in case if emergency happened.
At the other hand, a failed project is the one which turned out to be unsuccessful,
especially due to lack of experienced project manager or lack of few or many
resources. It always arises as a result of poor management, and poor
communication with no documentation, no time planning and no rules or standards
followed correctly, and most cases with limited financial support. The stakeholders
may not be acting in a way they should be and that there is no frequent monitoring
of the project.
The key difference between the two projects is that the successful project was as a
result of good management, timely communication and the clarity of the project
goals as well as the adoption of the right resources. The project manager and the
team followed the scope of the project. The failed project is a result of poor
management or even inexperienced management. Poor planning and budgeting
also contribute to the failure of the project as well as poor communication to both
the team members and the stakeholders. Lack of a clear scope is another reason for
the failure.
