Lucky 5
Lucky 5
Lucky 5
The story of the game is pretty simple like many other 3D platformer video games.
The hero of the game is a young cute a fox named Lucky.
Lucky and his sister Lyra are both called Guardians, their job is to guard and protect The Book of
Ages, a book that has great super powers.
When The Kitty Litter (lead by a cat named Jinx) attempt to steal the book, a strange light bursts
out of it that sucks up everything around it -including Lucky- to the worlds the book contains.
Thus, Lucky’s adventure begins to defeat Jinx’s Kitty Litter in order to stop them from
controlling the book which could rewrite history.
The game has different worlds, each one represents a part of the book, each world has an evil
boss that controls it.
Lucky has to go through different and various challenges, stages and levels, in order to beat
those bosses and collect the book’s pages.
The first thing you would notice in this game is the design, from the super cute cartoony style to
the beautiful effects along with a colorful bright world that is full of life which is always a cheer
to look at and play.
The game runs at a steady 30 FPS.
Controls are pretty easy, Lucky can perform a jump, double jump, tail attack, and burrow.
Performance is pretty solid on Switch with super responsive controls and camera, so to say
generally the game looks fantastic and runs smoothly.
Playful Studios have paid a great deal of attention to a lots of details, they had in mind that
whoever plays this game might like many challenges, exploration and interacting with the
environment and NPCS, and that is so obvious when it comes the various play styles the game
offers in its wonderful levels, for example: the top-down sort of like a map levels, 2.5D and 2D
levels where you can move freely left or right, or where you can’t control Lucky’s movements
but only 2 of his abilities (Jumping and Burrowing) –think of it as some of the endless runner
games- all of that makes the game so diverse in a very good way.
Lucky’s movements sound effects feel so original, they give Lucky a unique personality, and that
allows you to feel and connect with the game more and more.
Each area is entirely different with how it looks, feels, and what things you could interact with
including the creatures and enemies that dwell in it.
Every level offers a different challenge; a mission you have to do, or some traps to dodge, with
plenty of fun platforming.
Every completed level awards you with one page of the book, which is not enough to reach the
boss fight since they need more pages than the levels number, but fear not, there are multiple
ways to earn pages throughout the game.
Each level contains four pages you can get:
1. One by completing the level.
2. One by collecting your 5 letters name L-U-C-K-Y, and those letters are often hidden in
various areas across the stage, or can be obtained by doing side quests; like helping a
framer by getting his lost chickens.
3. One by collecting 300 coins.
4. One is always well hidden inside each level for you to discover and find.
And of course, once you defeat a boss, you move on the next world.
There is a customization shop for Lucky that has AMAZING outfits which you can unlock and
purchase while playing the game.
The difficulty in the game is gradual, but the curve of it is somehow light.
Generally, the game is considered easy with no too extra hard challenges.
My only wish that if the game was a longer, main story could be done in around 7 and a half
hours, with an extra 3 hours to do the additional challenges if you want to 100% it.
If you like Super Mario Odyssey, Yooka-Laylee, and A Hat in Time, you will fall in love with New
Super Lucky’s Tale, because playing it is magical to the point where you don’t want it to end, it
feels like it is a love letter to all the 3D platforming games out there.
The game launched exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, but good news is that it is heading to
other platforms.
Look for New Super Lucky’s Tale to appear on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and maybe PC very
soon.
I give the game a solid 9 out of 10 on the Nintendo Switch and I can’t recommend it enough.
Lucky is such a very well designed character; the joy he brings by just looking at him is priceless!
And I think we do need that in the world; especially in these dark times.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review this amazing game! You’re awesome!
Best regards.
