CLASSIFICATION OF TISSUES:
Read Exercise 6, pages 67-92
5 Main Categories
Connective tissue types can be differentiated by the type of
1) Extra cellular matrix
2) Fibers
3) Cells
4) Vascularization.
Study the distinguishing features of each tissue type using the Human Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory
Manual, Pages 75-82, then look at the slide under the microscope to find these features. Identify the tissue
based on the presence or absence of the distinguishing features. Write down your observations.
DO NOT memorize the pictures!
1. EMBRYONIC connective tissue is a loose tissue formed during early embryonic development. This
type of connective tissue is found primarily in the umbilical cord. Embryonic connective tissue is not found
in adults. There are 4 types of connective tissue which are derived from an embryonic tissue called
mesenchyme.
