Brass
Long and McQuade Junior Brass Scholarship
LONG AND MCQUADE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS is offering a scholarship in the amount of $150 to the competitor
who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives the best performance in the Junior Brass solo classes.

Kramer Intermediate Brass Scholarship


The DONALD and CLAIRE KRAMER Foundation Fund at the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation is
offering a scholarship of $150 for the best performance in the Intermediate Brass Classes.

Ernst Paul Trebuss Memorial Trombone Scholarship


This scholarship of $400 has been established in memory of ERNST PAUL TREBUSS, who was principal trombonist
with the Budapest Philharmonic, and Professor of Music at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest for
thirty years. This scholarship shall be awarded to the competitor in Trombone solo classes who achieves the
highest mark (80 or over) and is under the age of 21 as of January 1st of the festival year in which the scholarship is
awarded.
Long and McQuade Senior Brass Scholarship
LONG AND MCQUADE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS is offering a scholarship in the amount of $200 to the competitor
who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives the best performance in the Senior Brass solo classes.

Choral
Regina Philharmonic Chorus Choir Camp Scholarship
The REGINA PHILHARMONIC CHORUS is offering a scholarship of $200 to be awarded to a deserving Youth or
Children’s Choir or Chorus. Two or more members of the chosen choir or chorus, to be selected by the conductor,
will receive awards to further their musical education.

Vilda McKeown Memorial Community Choral Award


An award of $200 will be presented to the Community Choir, which in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives an
outstanding performance in Open and Special Choral classes 11200, 11201, 11202, 11203, 11204, 11205, 11300,
11301, 11302, 11303, 11304 and 11305.

Franklin E. McKeown Memorial Choral Award


To honour the memory of FRANKLIN E. MCKEOWN, a memorial cup presented by the members of a Regina ladies
chorus, the HEWETTES, is awarded annually to the Choral Group which, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives an
outstanding performance at the Regina Music Festival. In addition, the Regina Music Festival Association is offering
the winner of this award a scholarship of $300 from the McKeown Scholarship Fund, a generous bequest of VILDA
MCKEOWN.
Multi-Discipline
Donald & Claire Kramer Foundation Award
DONALD and CLAIRE KRAMER are offering an award of $1000 to recognize the contributions of ROBIN SWALES to
the cultural life of Regina as a performer, administrator, board member, organizer and supporter in many artistic
spheres over more than 40 years. Dr. Swales is an Emeritus Professor of History and a former head of the College of
Fine Arts at the University of Regina, a former President of the Regina Music Festival Association and a former
Director of Music at Holy Rosary Cathedral where the Foundation established the Swales Organ Scholarships and
where distinguished organ recitalists have frequently appeared under his aegis in recent years.
The Award will be made annually to the student in Intermediate or Senior Classes who, in the opinion of the
adjudicators, is most outstanding in two or more disciplines (in at least two solo classes in each discipline) during
the Regina Music Festival.

Queen City Kinsmen Scholarships


The QUEEN CITY KINSMEN CLUB is sponsoring a competition for performers at the Regina Music Festival in each
of four disciplines – piano, vocal, strings and brass/woodwind. Candidates for the competition will be chosen from
the Intermediate classes by the adjudicators at the conclusion of “regular” Festival classes. In each discipline, the
winner will be awarded $200, and the two runners-up $100 each.

Fleming Award
The family of WILLIAM (BILL) FLEMING is offering an award of $400 to the most outstanding performance in the
Kinsmen Competition. Bill’s greatest joys were to be found in singing and in encouraging young musicians. In
addition to his career as teacher/librarian, he performed with the Tudor Singers of Montreal, The Elizabethan
Singers of Regina, the Regina Philharmonic Chorus and many fine church choirs, often as soloist. His range included
his performance as Prince Yamadori in the excellent professional Opera Saskatchewan production of Madama
Butterfly in 1979. He attended the Regina Music Festival as an MC for numerous competitions and was fulsome in
his praise of the young performers.

Regina Central Lions Scholarships


The REGINA CENTRAL LIONS CLUB is sponsoring a competition for performers at the Regina Music Festival in
each of four disciplines – piano, vocal, strings and brass/woodwind. Candidates for the competition will be chosen
from the Senior classes by the adjudicators at the conclusion of “regular” Festival classes. In each discipline, the
winner will be awarded $300, and the two runners-up $100 each.

William Cornish Grand Award


The FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF THE LATE WILLIAM CORNISH, former President of the Regina Music Festival
Association, have established a fund from which a $500 award will be presented annually to the most outstanding
performance in the Regina Central Lions Scholarship Competition.

Musical Theatre
William Cornish Primary Musical Theatre Scholarship
The WILLIAM CORNISH SCHOLARSHIP FUND is providing $50 which will be awarded to the competitor who, in the
opinion of the adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance in the Primary Musical Theatre solo classes.
Kent Wolkowski Elementary Musical Theatre Scholarship
The family and friends of KENT WOLKOWSKI are offering a scholarship of $100 in his memory. At four years of age
Kent developed a lifelong passion for the arts. A member of Do It With Class for 12 years, he competed in numerous
vocal and musical theatre classes in the Regina Music Festival. He followed this with Classical Acting Studies at
George Brown Theatre School in Toronto. Known in the film industry as Kent Nolan, he was an actor, screen writer,
producer and director. The scholarship is to be awarded to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator,
gives an outstanding performance in the Elementary Musical Theatre solo classes.

Ricker Junior Musical Theatre Scholarship


OWEN and CELIA RICKER are pleased to present a scholarship, in the amount of $125, to be awarded at the
discretion of the adjudicator, for an outstanding performance in the Junior Musical Theatre solo classes.

Ricker Intermediate Musical Theatre Scholarship


OWEN and CELIA RICKER are offering a scholarship of $175 which will be awarded to the competitor who in the
opinion of the adjudicator gives an outstanding performance in the Intermediate Musical Theatre solo classes.

Do It With Class Young People’s Theatre Intermediate Musical Theatre Scholarship


DO IT WITH CLASS YOUNG PEOPLE’S THEATRE is offering a scholarship of $200 to be awarded to the competitor
who receives the highest mark in the Musical Theatre class 09101 and have obtained a minimum mark of 85. The
winner must have performed in at least two other solo musical theatre classes.

Dan & Marguerite Ursan Musical Theatre Award


This award will be given to the Musical Theatre Ensemble receiving the highest mark in classes 09200, 09201 and
90320. Each participant in the ensemble will receive a $50 gift certificate.

Yvonne Ellis Memorial Musical Theatre Duet Scholarship


In honour of MRS. YVONNE ELLIS and her devotion to musical theatre in Regina, the URSAN FAMILY is offering a
scholarship in the amount of $300. The award will be presented to the finest performance in the Musical Theatre
Duet classes.
Larry and Elva Kyle Senior Musical Theatre Scholarship
MR. JUSTICE LARRY KYLE and MRS. ELVA KYLE are offering a scholarship in the amount of $400 to be awarded to
the competitor who gives an outstanding performance in the Senior Ballad Musical Theatre solo classes.

Kent Wolkowski Senior Musical Theatre Scholarship


The family and friends of KENT WOLKOWSKI are offering a scholarship of $400 in his memory. At four years of age

DO IT WITH CLASS YOUNG PEOPLE’S THEATRE is offering a scholarship of $400 to be awarded to the competitor
who receives the highest mark in Musical Theatre class 09100 and have obtained a minimum mark of 85. The
winner must have performed in at least two other solo musical theatre classes.
Percussion
Nicholls Percussion Scholarship
ROBERT NICHOLLS is offering a scholarship of $150 to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator,
receives the highest mark in percussion classes 10007 and 70000 to 70307. The Competitor must compete in two
of the following categories of Percussion classes: Snare Drum, Mallet, Timpani, Multiple Percussion and Percussion
Ensemble.

Piano
Eureka Primary Piano Award and Trophy
A scholarship of $50 and a trophy is awarded anonymously to a competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator,
gives the most outstanding performance in the Primary Piano solo classes.

Primary Piano Recital Piece Scholarship


MARGARET PURSE is offering a scholarship of $50 for the most outstanding performance in the Primary Piano
Recital Piece solo classes.

Jean Harach Primary Piano Baroque Scholarship


A scholarship of $75 is presented to the competitor receiving the highest mark in the Primary Piano Baroque
classes.

Jean Harach Primary Piano Scholarship


A scholarship of $75 is presented to the competitor who in the opinion of the adjudicator gives an outstanding
performance in the Primary Piano solo classes.

Swanson Music Primary/Elementary Piano Canadian Music Scholarship


DIANNE SWANSON is offering a scholarship in the amount of $100 to be awarded at the discretion of the
adjudicator for an outstanding performance in the Primary and Elementary Piano Canadian and Saskatchewan
Repertoire classes.
Kramer Primary/Elementary Piano Duet Scholarship
The DONALD and CLAIRE KRAMER Foundation Fund at the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation is
offering a scholarship of $100 for the best performance in the Primary or Elementary Piano Duet Classes.

Ba Vo Elementary Duo Piano Scholarship


LING TRAN is offering a scholarship of $75 for the winner of the 12 and under Elementary Duo Piano Class. This is
named for her mother, Ba Vo, who has enthusiastically supported the family in its piano studies and who loves to
inspire young musicians.

Piano Scholarship Grades 3 & 4


MARGARET PURSE is offering a scholarship of $100 for the most outstanding performance in the Grade 3 and 4
Piano solo classes. In order to be considered for this award, competitors may not have obtained a grade higher
than grade 4 at the time of the festival.

Elementary Piano Recital Class Scholarship


A scholarship of $100 is offered anonymously to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives the
outstanding performance in the Elementary Recital solo classes.
SRMTA Regina Branch Elementary Piano Sonatina Scholarship
The SASKATCHEWAN REGISTERED MUSIC TEACHERS ASSOCIATION Regina Branch is offering a scholarship of
$100 to be awarded to the competitor receiving the highest mark in the Elementary Piano Sonata/Sonatina classes.

Chinese Language School of Regina Elementary Piano Scholarship


THE CHINESE LANGUAGE SCHOOOL OF REGINA is offering a scholarship of $150 for the most outstanding
performance in the Elementary Piano solo classes.

Lion Archie Ostlund Memorial Piano Scholarship


In order to encourage students to play one verse from each of the Royal Anthem, God Save the Queen, and the
National Anthem, O Canada, from memory; DR NEIL OSTLAND of London, Ontario, has offered a scholarship of
$100 in memory of his father, LION ARCHIE OSTLAND. It is to be awarded to the candidate who obtains the highest
mark in Piano solo classes 02140 and 02141. The winner may be selected to play at the final Awards Concert.

Jack Partridge Memorial Piano Scholarship


A scholarship of $150 is offered by JOHN DAVIES in memory of JACK PARTRIDGE, an outstanding former Music Co-
Ordinator for the Regina Board of Education and Arts Co-Ordinator for the Regina Public Schools. Music Director at
First Presbyterian Church for over forty years, Jack also travelled widely as an adjudicator. The scholarship will be
awarded to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance in the
Elementary or Junior Piano Concert Group classes.

Sylvia Yam Memorial Piano Scholarship Grades 5 & 6


In memory of SYLVIA YAM, a longtime choral conductor and vocal and piano teacher in Regina, her family and
friends are offering a scholarship of $200 to further encourage the competitor who, in the opinion of the
adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance in the Grade 5 and 6 Piano Classes. In order to be considered for
this award, competitors may not have obtained a grade higher than grade 6 at the time of the festival.

Jean Harach Junior Piano Baroque Scholarship


A scholarship of $100 is presented to the competitor receiving the highest mark in the Junior Baroque Piano class.

Junior Piano Recital Piece Scholarship


A scholarship of $100 is offered anonymously to be awarded for the most outstanding performance in the Junior
Piano Recital Piece solo classes.

SRMTA Regina Branch Junior Piano Sonatina Scholarship


A scholarship of $100 is offered by the SASKATCHEWAN REGISTERED MUSIC TEACHERS ASSOCIATION REGINA
BRANCH to be awarded to the competitor receiving the highest mark in the Junior Piano Sonata/Sonatina classes.

Contemporary Showcase Regina Junior Piano Canadian Music Scholarship


CONTEMPORARY SHOWCASE REGINA is offering a scholarship in the amount of $150 to be awarded at the
discretion of the adjudicator for an outstanding performance in the Junior Piano Canadian and Saskatchewan
Repertoire classes.

Lillian E. Kutarna Memorial Junior Piano Scholarship


The family of LILLIAN E. KUTARNA is offering a scholarship of $150 in memory of her long-standing membership
as a piano teacher in the Regina Music Teachers’ Association. The scholarship will be awarded to the competitor
who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance in the Piano Solo, 20th or 21st Century
Music, 14 years & under class.
Marshall Lundlie Memorial Intermediate Piano Scholarship
Mrs. LISE LUNDLIE is offering a scholarship of $150, in memory of her husband DR. MARSHALL LUNDLIE, to be
awarded to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance in the
Intermediate Piano Sonata, Haydn/Mozart, 17 years & under class.

SMRTA Regina Branch Intermediate Piano Canadian Music Scholarship


The SASKATCHEWAN REGISTERED MUSIC TEACHERS ASSOCIATION REGINA BRANCH is offering a scholarship of
$150 to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, presents an outstanding performance in the
Intermediate Piano Canadian and Saskatchewan Repertoire classes.

SRMTA Regina Branch Intermediate Piano Sonatina Scholarship


A scholarship of $150 is offered by the SASKATCHEWAN REGISTERED MUSIC TEACHERS ASSOCIATION REGINA
BRANCH to be awarded to the competitor receiving the highest mark in the Intermediate Piano Sonata/Sonatina
classes.

William Moore Memorial Intermediate Piano Bach Scholarship


A scholarship of $150 is to be awarded to the competitor who receives the highest mark playing a composition by
J.S. Bach in the Intermediate Piano Bach, Baroque and Baroque Suite classes. It is given anonymously in memory of
WILLIAM MOORE, a student of Rosina Lhevinne at the Julliard School and an outstanding piano teacher at the
University of Regina for over thirty years. Many of his students have become professional solo pianists, chamber
musicians and teachers.

Intermediate Piano Beethoven Scholarship


A scholarship of $200 is offered by DR. BRUCE PLOUFFE, professor emeritus of German at the University of Regina,
to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance in the Piano Sonata,
Beethoven, 17 years and under class.

Joyce M. Johnson Intermediate Piano Chopin Scholarship


JOYCE M. JOHNSON, a distinguished retired piano teacher and Honorary Member of the Saskatchewan Music
Teachers’ Association, is offering a scholarship of $250 to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator,
gives the most outstanding performance in the Piano Solo, Chopin, 17 years and under class.

David L. McIntyre Piano Scholarship


CONTEMPORARY SHOWCASE REGINA is offering a scholarship in the amount of $150 for the performance of a
work by David L. McIntyre of Regina in recognition of his work in composition. The award will be made to the
competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance of a work composed by David
L. McIntyre in any Piano class in the Regina Music Festival.

Ursula Patterson Memorial Piano Scholarship


The family of URSULA PATTERSON is offering a scholarship of $150 to honour one of Regina’s finest accompanists.
The scholarship will be awarded for the best performance in the Accompanist classes.

Linda Crawley Memorial Senior Piano Scholarship


A scholarship of $200 in memory of LINDA KAREN CRAWLEY is being donated by her family. This scholarship is to
be awarded to the competitor receiving the highest mark performing a Debussy composition in the Piano Solo,
French Music, (Senior) Open class.
Kramer Senior Piano Bach Scholarship
The DONALD and CLAIRE KRAMER Foundation Fund at the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation is
offering a scholarship of $200 for the best performance in the Bach Senior Piano classes.

Senior Piano Chopin Scholarship


MARGARET PURSE is offering a scholarship of $200 for the most outstanding performance in the Piano Solo,
Chopin, (Senior) Open class.

Senior Piano Scholarship in 20 TH/21st Century and Canadian Music


DAVID L. MCINTYRE, well know Regina composer, pianist and organist, is offering a scholarship of $200 for the
competitor receiving the highest mark in the Senior Piano solo classes 20320 and 20350.

Ken Hart Senior Piano Beethoven Scholarship


The family of KEN HART is offering a scholarship of $300 to the winner of the Senior Beethoven Piano Class. Ken
Hart was an Oil and Gas Consultant in Regina for over 2 years and loved music. The family is honouring him for his
generosity and desire to help children to achieve their goals.

Gordon C. Wallis Piano Scholarship


A scholarship was established by GORDON C. L. WALLIS, former Assistant Director of the Conservatory of Music,
University of Regina. This scholarship of $400 is for further study, and will be awarded to an advanced student of
piano, gaining first in the class 02000 competition for performing a 20 minute or less group of three pieces, one by
J. S. Bach, one from the Romantic or Impressionist Schools, and the third by a contemporary composer. These
pieces can be performed in other classes in this year’s festival. Those entering must compete in at least two other
Piano solo classes in the Regina Music Festival in the same year. This scholarship will not be awarded if no suitable
entrant is of high enough calibre. No adjudication will be given.

Helen E. Graham Memorial Piano Scholarship


A memorial scholarship of $400 has been established by the family of HELEN E. GRAHAM, a dedicated and gifted
piano teacher at the Regina Conservatory of Music. The scholarship will be awarded to the most talented South
Saskatchewan pianist at the Regina Music Festival. The winner must be continuing music studies in the “school
year”, normally beginning in September after the festival.

Lieder Scholarship – Piano


The VOLKSLIEDERCHOR HARMONIE and an anonymous donor are jointly offering a scholarship of $400 to the do
obtaining the highest combined mark in one of the Lieder classes (excluding the Special Lieder class). The vocalist
and the pianist will each receive $200. The pianist is not required to compete in other competitions.

Pipe Organ
Brian Cavanagh Memorial Junior Pipe Organ Scholarship
DR. BARBARA REUL is providing a scholarship of $100 in memory of BRIAN CAVANAGH to be awarded to the
competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance in the Junior Pipe Organ solo
classes, excluding the Sacred and Accompaniment classes.

RCCO Regina Centre Intermediate Pipe Organ Scholarship


The REGINA CENTRE of the ROYAL CANADIAN COLLEGE of ORGANISTS is offering a scholarship of $150 to be
awarded to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance in the
Intermediate Pipe Organ solo classes, excluding the Sacred and Accompaniment classes.
David L. Johnson Memorial Senior Pipe Organ Scholarship
This scholarship of $200 is given in memory of DAVID LESLIE JOHNSON. It is to be awarded to the competitor who,
in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance at the Regina Music Festival in the Senior Pipe
Organ solo classes, excluding the Sacred and Accompaniment classes.

Valerie Hall Pipe Organ Award


VALERIE HALL is providing a trophy to be awarded each year to the competitor in the Regina Music Festival who
receives the highest mark in the Pipe Organ solo classes.
Sharon Dyksman Pipe Organ Scholarship
This scholarship of $300 is offered by SHARON DYKSMAN for the competitor who, in the opinion of the
adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance in the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Pipe Organ solo Sacred and
Accompaniment classes.

Strings
Swanson Music Primary String Scholarship
DIANNE SWANSON is offering a scholarship of $100 to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives
the most outstanding performance in the Primary String solo classes.

Jack Partridge Memorial Elementary String Scholarship


A scholarship of $100 is offered by John Davies in memory of Jack Partridge, an outstanding former Music Co-
Ordinator for the Regina Board of Education and Arts Co-Ordinator for the Regina Public Schools. Music Director at
Frist Presbyterian Church for over forty years, Jack also travelled widely as an adjudicator. The scholarship will be
awarded to the competitor receiving the highest mark in the Elementary String Solo Classes.

Arnold Tiefenbach Junior Violin Scholarship


JOANNE and BRYAN HILLIS are sponsoring a scholarship of $100 in memory of ARNOLD TIEFENBACH, a much
loved chaplain and teacher at Luther College and a long-time supporter of the Regina Music Festival. This
scholarship will be awarded for the most outstanding performance in the Junior Violin solo classes.

Luther College Junior String Scholarship


JOANNE and BRYAN HILLIS are sponsoring a scholarship of $100 in the name of Luther College to be awarded for
the most outstanding performance in the Junior String solo classes.

Kramer Junior Cello Scholarship


The DONALD and CLAIRE KRAMER Foundation Fund at the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation, is
offering a scholarship of $150 for the best performance in the Junior Cello Classes.

Christine Duke Memorial Intermediate String Scholarship


The family and friends of the late CHRISTINE ALAYNE DUKE and the ELIZABETHAN SINGERS of Regina are
offering a scholarship of $150 in her memory. It will be awarded at the discretion of the adjudicator to a deserving
student in the Intermediate String solo classes.

Luther College Intermediate Cello Scholarship


JOANNE and BRYAN HILLIS are sponsoring a scholarship of $150 in the name of Luther College to be awarded for
the most outstanding performance in the Intermediate Cello solo classes.
Regina Musical Club Laubach Intermediate Violin Scholarship
This scholarship in the amount of $150 is awarded each year by the REGINA MUSICAL CLUB in memory of the late
PROFESSOR F. L. LAUBACH, to a competitor in the intermediate Violin solo classes who gives an outstanding
performance.

William & Ellen Chapco Viola Scholarship


A scholarship of $250 is being offered by WILLIAM & ELLEN CHAPCO to the competitor who, in the opinion of the
adjudicator gives an outstanding performance in the Viola solo classes for all age groups up to and including 17 and
under.
Albert Wolfe Memorial String Scholarship
The family of ALBERT WOLFE, for many years a supporter of the Regina Music Festival through his own
scholarship, is offering a scholarship of $150 to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives an
outstanding performance in any of the String Concerto/Concerted Work classes (all ages).

Elman Lowe Memorial Senior String Scholarship


The family of ELMAN LOWE is offering a scholarship of $200 to be awarded at the discretion of the adjudicator to a
deserving student in the Senior String solo classes.

Gyro Club of Regina Senior String Scholarship


The GYRO CLUB OF REGINA has established a senior scholarship in the amount of $350 to be awarded to the
winner of class 03000. Repertoire in this class may be repeated in other classes. Those entering must compete in at
least two other String solo classes in the Regina Music Festival in the same year. Each competitor may perform any
number of own choice selections within a maximum time of fifteen minutes.

Vocal
SRMTA Regina Branch Primary Vocal Canadian Music Scholarship
The SASKATCHEWAN REGISTERED MUSIC TEACHERS ASSOCIATION REGINA BRANCH is offering a scholarship of
$50 to be awarded to an outstanding performer in the Primary Vocal Canadian and Saskatchewan Repertoire
classes.
Marjorie Burns Primary Vocal Folksong Scholarship
MARJORIE BURNS (well know in Regina as a teacher, choir director and vocalist) is offering a scholarship of $100

classes: 01576, 01577 and 01578. Accurate and authentic diction will be a factor in the choice of the recipient.

In memory of SYLVIA YAM, a longtime choral conductor and vocal and piano teacher in Regina, her family and

Song. The following classes are excluded from this scholarship: Sacred, Sacred Repertoire, Operetta, Folksong,
Concert Group, Conservatory, Contemporary and Ensemble classes.

Winifred Frost Memorial Intermediate Vocal Scholarship


To honour the memory of WINIFRED FROST, and to assist a vocal student to continue musical studies, members of
Ms. Frost’s family are offering a scholarship of $500 to a competitor who has entered and performed in at least four
Intermediate Vocal solo classes and, in the opinion of the adjudicator, demonstrated a high standard throughout
but may not have been recommended for the highest awards.
Winifred Frost was an educator and choral conductor deeply interested in nurturing the musical development of
her students. She founded a singing group called the Meadowlarks and led them to a high standard of performance.
She was a lifelong singer herself and a faithful member of St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral Choir in Regina until an
advanced age.

The late ALICE and JACK McDONALD of Regina established a fund with the REGINA MUSIC FESTIVAL
ASSOCIATION to provide a $100 scholarship to the male singer, 21 years and under, showing the greatest promise.

Thomas & Donald Hatton Senior Vocal Award


This award, donated by the late THOMAS HATTON and the late DONALD HATTON, with a scholarship of $100 from
MARGARET HATTON is presented to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives the best
performance in one of the Vocal Test Piece, Grade A classes.

JUVENTUS CHOIR INC. (1994-2012) is offering a scholarship of $150 to the winner of the French Art Song class,
provided that a minimum mark of 85 has been awarded, unless the performer’s number of scholarships exceeds
the maximum permitted, in which case the scholarship will be awarded to the competitor with the next highest
mark.

Hardwicke Memorial Grade A Senior Vocal Scholarship


A scholarship of $200 is offered anonymously in memory of PHYLLIS HARDWICKE, well known in the midlands
and southern England between the two world wards as a singer and member of ‘concert parties’ and founder of an
entertainment group in the 1940s. The scholarship will be awarded to the competitor who receives the highest
mark in the Vocal Concert Group, Grade A class.

Gordon Bintner Senior Vocal Oratorio Scholarship


The family of GORDON BINTNER is offering a scholarship of $250 to the competitor who, in the opinion of the
adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance of an aria in the Senior Vocal Solo J.S. Bach and the Senior
Oratorio/Sacred Solo Classes. Gordon Bintner, bass-baritone, grew up in the Regina where he received his early
training. He performs with the Frankfurt Opera Company, the Canadian Opera Company and elsewhere in Europe
and the United States.

Myrtle Root Memorial Senior Vocal Canadian Scholarship


TANYA and ROBERT CAMERON are offering a scholarship of $250 in memory of Tanya’s grandmother, Mrs. Myrtle
Root, a passionate supporter of singing. The scholarship will be awarded to the candidate who, in the opinion of the
adjudicator, gives the outstanding performance in the Senior Vocal Canadian and Saskatchewan Repertoire Open
classes.
Lieder Scholarship – Vocal
The VOLKSLIEDERCHOR HARMONIE and an anonymous donor are jointly offering a scholarship of $400 to the duo
obtaining the highest combined mark in one of the Lieder classes (excluding Special Lieder). The vocalist and the
pianist will each receive $20. The pianist is not required to compete in other competitions.

Bradley Moore Senior Vocal Scholarship


A Senior Vocal competition, Class 01000, has been established in memory of PATRICIA BRADLEY MOORE. The
winner will receive a scholarship of $400. This is an open competition but those entering must compete in at least
two other Vocal solo classes (excluding Operetta) in the Regina Music Festival in the same year. Repertoire in this
class may be repeated in other classes. Each competitor may perform any number of own choice selections within a
maximum time of fifteen minutes.

Swanson Music Junior Woodwind Scholarship
DIANNE SWANSON is offering a scholarship of $100 to the competitor who, in the opinion of the adjudicator, gives
the most outstanding performance in the Junior Woodwind solo classes.

Kramer Intermediate Woodwind Scholarship


The DONALD and CLAIRE KRAMER Foundation at the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation is offering a
scholarship of $150 for the best performance in the Intermediate Woodwind Classes.

Bill Freeman Memorial Senior/Intermediate Woodwind Scholarship


JEAN FREEMAN is offering a scholarship of $150 in memory of her late husband, BILL FREEMAN, musician,
teacher, and community bandmaster for more than 50 years. It will be awarded to the competitor who, in the
opinion of the adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance in the Senior and Intermediate (17 years & under)
Woodwind Concerto and Sonata classes.

Regina Musical Club Woodwind Canadian Music Scholarship


The REGINA MUSICAL CLUB is offering a scholarship of $150, to be awarded at the discretion of the adjudicator for
an outstanding performance in the Woodwind Canadian solo classes.

Beta Sigma Phi Senior Woodwind Scholarship


The BETA SIGMA PHI CHAPTER is offering a scholarship of $200 to be awarded to a performer who, in the opinion
of the adjudicator, gives an outstanding performance in the Senior Woodwind solo classes.
