DQ 1 Week 6

Evidence- based management refers to translating principles based on best evidence into

organizational practices. Through evidence based management, practicing managers develop into

experts who make organizational decisions informed by social science and organizational

research (Rousseau, 2006).

The PA assignment of week 6 has asked to explain Evidence-based management and its

five steps. Therefore, in this regard, the DQ focuses on six different peer- reviewed articles

which can directly or indirectly be useful in the upcoming assignment. Some of the articles used

I shall be reviewing are as follows:

Article 1: Implementation of evidence based practice in private and public sector

The article emphasis on implementing EBP in different organizations to examine its

impact, organizational support, and its uses. Also, the researchers have anticipated that the use of

evidence research shall be used in private sector more than in public sector. For this study, path

analysis was conducted to compare three models. As per the researcher anticipation, it was found

that the private sector provided greater support for EBP implementation, and also, showed

positive attitude towards adopting this practice. In conclusion, Aarons et al. (2009) has

demonstrates the role of organizational support for EBP and also, to adopt this practice for long

term plans. Along with that, this can also helpful for organization to be innovative and achieve

the goals.

Article 2: The Intelligent Company

Marr (2010) has defined Evidence based management as a framework for translating

raw data into information and using the very same information into actionable knowledge. Also,

it has five different steps to measure the challenges. They are as follows:

 What do we need to know?

 Finding the evidence

 Getting insights

 Communicating the messages

 Making right decisions using the evidence based management

Each step has its sub- steps which provide a full picture of how evidence based practice

can be useful to build organizational structure. Thus, this can be used in our assignment

to elaborate the answer which is asked.

Article 3: Sustainability of Evidence- based Practice through ARCC Model

The article presents the concepts of patient safety and high reliability in the health care

organization and also, how evidence based practice can be helpful to assist companies or any

firm to achieve high reliability. Along with that, ARCC (Advancing Research and Clinical

practice through close Collaboration) model and EBP is also highlighted as a key strategic to

achieve high reliability in organizations. Melnyk (2012) has concluded that to build or to

improve efficiency and reduce health cost in the health care, it is important to implement ARCC

model as well as sustain EBP. Through this, the organization can get knowledge regarding

various scenarios and how it can be dealt in future. Lastly, this article can come in handy in show

the importance of EBP which helps in achieving reliability in any organization.

Article 4: Evidence Based Management or Oriented Organizing

Evidence based management should be based on ‘what works’ as determined by

various researchers. However, there was some criticism as this management has issue i.e.

uncertain. Tourish (2012) has suggested that while research evidence is rarely conclusive, it can

also be aspire towards progressive displacement which shall be ignore by knowledge. Also, even

though some accept this practice, there is some argument that says it is more rhetorical which
might systematically decrease the power of organization where evidence is implemented and

employed in the process of making decisions. Therefore, it has been argued that the evidence

based management should be replaced with evidence oriented organizing.

Article 5: Managerial attitudes and perceived barriers regarding evidence based practice

(2017)

The article focuses on understanding practitioner attitudes and perceived barriers

related to evidence based practice in medicine and nursing sector. The researchers have used

questionnaire method by asking different queries to 2,789 staffs. Questions such as: what are

managers’ behaviors towards EBP, what evidence sources do employees used to complete their

daily job, and many more. In conclusion, it was found that, most of the managers had positive

attitudes towards this practice. However, due to lack of time and limited understanding its

implementation was being slow. Also, it was found that managers use the very same pattern to

complete their task in the respective fields. To enhance the use of EBP in an organization,

leaders need to promote an environment where scientific research and its uses should be a part of

making every decision processes. Thus, this article can be used in assignment for knowing how

evidence based management can improve the organization and how it should be utilized.

Article 6: Price promotion decisions: Intuitive or evidence –based

Basically, the article investigates factors that affects or influence price-promotion

decisions in industries. It focuses on evidence based practices for making decisions in this field.

The researchers have mainly compared managers’ beliefs with existing academic knowledge.

Bogomolova et. al. (2017) have concluded their research by suggesting that retailers and

manufactures lack solid empirical evidence to guide their certain actions, and also, price

promotion are not evaluated against their objective which shall not be appropriate for the future
decision- making process. Therefore, the researchers have suggested using evidence based

decision making process in this area.

Industry Example

Let’s take an example of a bank to show how evidence based management can be

utilized. When there is a certain issue faced by a new comer employee, he can get panicked, to

overcome these basic problems, supervisor or mangers tend to keep files or record of previous

experienced employees to tackle with similar type of problem in future. Thus, the newcomer can

get ideas through the records, videos, or stored filed to solve the issues. Therefore, it is necessary

to store evidences in each and every organization to know what can be done to solve different

issues and how it can be tackled. Evidence based management can be applicable in any kind of

firm as it provides a certain way of completing a job.
