Experiment No.1

Attenuation in Transmission line

Objectives:
Finding the influence of frequency and length on the attenuation of the line.

Equipments:
- The trainer board B4510
- Sine wave generator
- Oscilloscope

Tasks:
The theory, procedure, and connections are cleared in the companion Worksheet of the
experiment.

Results:
The attenuation measured using the equation:…………………………………………..…

1) Different Lengths:
In this part, you will measure the attenuation for different trunks of the transmission
line available on the trainer.
 Set the sine-wave frequency to approximately 70 KHz and level to 5 Vpp.
 Oscilloscope CH1 shows applied input CH2 shows outputs.
 Measure signal level at Input, and at 25, 50, 75, and 100 m lengths.
 Tabulate as under:

Vin = ………………………….

L (m) Vout Att(dB)

 Draw the relationship between the length and the attenuation then discuss the results.

2) Different Frequencies :
In this part, you will measure the attenuation for different frequencies, between 70 KHz
& 2 MHz, of the sine generator at 100m.
 Set the sine-wave to level 5 Vpp.
 Oscilloscope CH1 shows applied input CH2 shows outputs.
 Measure signal level at Input, and output at100 m lengths.
 Tabulate as under for 15 measurements () :

Vin (F.G) = ………………………….

 Draw the relationship between the frequency and the attenuation on a semi-log paper ,
Then discuss the diagram; does it represent any familiar component?
