Q#2.

What was the purpose of the 3rd unpublished novel of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s “Makamisa”?

I – INTRODUCTION

Jose Rizal is a national hero who battled and died for his motherland. He likes to write
novels that could open the eyes of the blind. He challenged his readers to combat for the country's
liberation so that Filipinos could be free from oppressors who are the root of cause  of their
suffering. Makamisa, which translates as "After Mass" in English, is an unfinished novel written by
Rizal. It is a sequel to El Filibusterismo, which he wrote while traveling from Marseilles to Hong
Kong on the Melbourne ship in 1892.

II a - 1st RRL

According to Destura (2013), he reasoned out that Rizal never finished his third work,
Makamisa which he attempted to write in Tagalog but found hard to write in the native dialect.

II b - ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION OF THE 1ST RRL

In contrast to Destura's studies, his first reason was to produce a novel in Tagalog
Language that is definitely committed to Tagalog readers so that they may easily understand the
idea without insulting the Europeans. Indeed, Rizal left his teachings to the Filipinos through his
works and demonstrated his heroism via his convictions and sound judgment, on which he stood
stubbornly until his death.

III a - 2nd RRL

In addition, Mojares (2011) asserted that Rizal wanted to write “a novel in the modern
sense of the word and an artistic and literary novel. He added that, Rizal sacrificed politics and
arts for writing this unfinished novel.

III b – ANALYSIS /DISCUSSION OF THE 2nd RRL

Another reason was that he wanted to avoid criticism by writing a novel in a more “literary
and artistic” style. And to create a story focusing on Tagalog ethics in order to express Filipino
qualities, imperfections, and traditions. He also expects that at that time, the national language,
Spanish, will have been replaced by Filipino (Tagalog).

IV – GENERAL CONCLUSION
Based on the current information gathered, I come up that the Makamisa is Rizal's third
novel was recognized by many, rather than for the unpublished work known as 'Tagalog Nobility,'
as others wrongly assume. This was backed up by the fact, like Makamisa.  Makamisa stood out
among Rizal's unfinished works because of the languages employed to write it, which were
Spanish and Tagalog. In terms of the novel's title, Rizal's third novel was originally untitled.
Historians were responsible for the title "Makamisa." They came up with this term after reading the
first few chapters of the novel, which describe what happens in the basilica after the mass.

V – CLOSING STATEMENT
Furthermore, in terms of Rizal's responsibility as the novel's author, a closer assessment of
how they discovered the novel reveals that the texts between the pages of a book named Borrador
Del Noli Me Tangere or the early editions of Rizal's first novel. Given this, it becomes unlikely that
someone, including Rizal, would place someone else's work between the pages of the
aforementioned text. As a result, Jose Rizal is the unfinished novel's author.
