Ethical leadership is important for companies in both the short and long term. In the short term, ethical leaders can boost employee morale and collaboration. In the long term, ethical leadership can prevent scandals and issues while gaining partnerships and customers. Leaders should establish clear values, foster collaboration through communication, and offer formal ethics training to implement and monitor ethical behavior and create a positive culture.

In my experience, leadership that is ethical and fulfills moral responsibilities is important for a

variety of reasons, for customers, employees, and the company. Implementing and monitoring

moral responsibilities are crucial to help create a positive ethical culture in a company.

In the short-term, ethical leaders can help boost employee morale and help them feel excited

about their management and their work. It can increase positivity and collaboration in your

organization and make everyone feel happier to be at work.

In the long-term, ethical leadership can prevent company scandals, ethical dilemmas, and ethical

issues. It can also help organizations gain more partnerships and customers. A leader can

implement and monitor his ethical and moral responsibilities in the following ways:

Establish clear ethos and values – Lead by example

It is important to have a set of clear organizational core values that are communicated effectively

and discussed with the employees so that they feel part of it. It is the commitment that an

organization or a company makes to certain policies and actions, such as "going green" or "social

change". It is not enough to state this in the mission statement, brand story or in marketing and

promotional material. It is crucial that demonstrable actions are taken regularly so that the

employees feel an individual and personal responsibility towards these values. This will ensure

that they can evaluate their own attitudes towards these positive core values, and take pride in

them. Positive attitudes and positive actions make for a positive workplace culture. One of the

most noticeable ways that companies can demonstrate their commitment to creating an ethical

organizational culture is to ensure that top managers and leaders lead by example. Employees

look to the behavior of leaders as an example of the type of behavior that the company finds

acceptable in the workplace.

Foster collaboration and communication

Leadership and management style that encourages teamwork, open and honest communication is

vital to creating a positive feeling in the workplace. Open and honest communication also means

that regular audits are taken to evaluate how people are interacting with each other, feedback is

welcomed and taken on board, and opportunities for social interaction are enabled. These can

include coffee mornings, team getaways and family weekends. This gives an opportunity for

team members to nurture and foster connections outside of work. Also, strict no tolerance open

door policies and complaint procedure for workplace bullying is crucial for creating a positive

collaborative environment.

Offer Formal Ethics Training

A formal ethics training program sends a strong message about a company’s ethical stance.

Seminars, workshops, and other ethical training programs reinforce the organization’s standards

of conduct and clarify the types of behaviors that the company deems permissible or out of

bounds. Situational examples help to address how to handle possible ethical dilemmas.

Workshops can help employees to work on their problem-solving skills. Trainings may include

consultations from peers or mentors.

In totality, ethical leadership impacts company culture and positively affects an organization’s

external reputation. Business leaders interested in positively influencing internal workforce

culture and shaping their companies’ community standing can build a stronger ethical leadership

foundation with implementing and monitoring ethical behaviour.
