Shut Down Procedure (Tata Steel)
Except for few cases in Work Permit of Electrical equipment / Installation all other
clearance are given by Shift Incharge or his superior.
In case of "Work Permit On Electrical Equipment / Installation".
Authorization for issue and receipt of the above clearance is only for persons
having competency certificate or persons authorised in writing by the competent
authority.
Authorization for giving clearance is "Work Permit on Electrical
equipment/Installation" is as given below –
λ Supervisor up to 6.6 kV
λ Manager and above with required Supervisory Certificate of Competency
– All Voltage levels.
A caution tag (Red tag) is posted on the electrical equipment on which job
is being done giving details of date, time, name of work, Authorized
person putting the tag, Authorised person removing the tag.
For any bus shutdown of 3.3 kV and above prior approval is taken from
Sectional head / HOD.
For any bus / feeder shutdown "Checklist for Bus and Feeder shutdown"
is filled up & a written procedure is made and following and is kept as evidence
for post job analysis. Sectional head up to 33 kV and HOD above 33 kV
approves this procedure.
Shift incharge (Foreman / Acting Foreman / Asst. Foreman) is authorised
to stop any activity / job being done is his area of responsibility without proper
clearance.
Applicable safety appliances are used for the job as given in the table
below :-

7 Crash Helmet For working in live switchyard / During regular
inspection of switchyards.
Carbon Copies of the filled up forms are kept as record. Every use of cool
coat is recorded in the cool coat register kept in the section for the purpose.
After the completion of the job the clearance is cancelled.

NOTE :
a) Person should be same for Sl. No. 01, 02 and 03 for self clearance.

person (s) having competency certificate of persons authorised in writing
by competent authority.

For any Bus-down of 3.3 KV and above prior approval must be taken from Dy.
Div. Mgr./Divisional manager as the case may be.
For any Bus/Feeder shut-downs a written procedure must be made (complete
with work instruction) which has to be followed and kept as evidence for post job
analysis. This procedures as the case may be – must be cleared by (Dy.
Manager/manager upto 33 KV Dy.Div. Mgr., Divisional Manager above 33 KV)
respectively.
