procedures or examinations before? Identify the health examinations as shown in the pictures. Type your
response in the google chat box.
II. Looking into
● Now that we are done with the activity, let us answer the following questions.
a) How healthy are you?
b) Are you happy about your general health condition now? Why do you say so?
c) Why is one’s health a wealth?

III. Making clear

 A health appraisal is a record of an individual’s fitness as well as one’s risk of developing certain illnesses and
medical conditions. Although a health appraisal can have many similarities to a physical education, it tends to
place emphasis on future medical risks than a physical examination does. Read the following and learning
some health appraisal procedures that you can do for yourself.
 Height and Weight - It is during the adolescence stage that an individual gains half of its ideal body
weight. Peak weight gain follows the linear growth spur by 3-6 months in females making them gain
approximately 18.3 lb. or 8.3 kg per year during peak rates of weight gain and approximately three
months in males. Significant changes in the body composition among females take place during
puberty.
 Vision Screening - A vision screening is performed by an eye specialist an o t to detect certain eye
problems. The test includes the use of the "big E" or Snellen chart. The Snellen Chart is an eye
chart that eye care professionals use to measure how clearly a person can see. It is named after
Herman Snellen, a Dutch ophthalmologist, eye surgeon and professor.
 Scoliosis Test - Scoliosis is a condition where the spine is curved and appears to be shaped like an
“S” or “C”. Its cause is often unknown or idiopathic. The most common type is defined as a curve
that measures at least 10° called the Cobb angle. A physical examination is performed to test
scoliosis. This is done by asking the person to bend forward to make the spine easier to see. X-ray
of the spine is done to see the actual curving of the spine. The following manifestations may show:
 1. One shoulder is higher than the other.
 2. The pelvis is tilted.
Other tests may include:
 Scoliometer screening (spinal curve measurement)
 MRI of the spine
 Physical Health Examination - A physical examination or medical examination (popularly known as
medical checkup) is performed to investigate the body of a patient for signs of disease. This is done
by a medical professional. It includes the following:
1. The, medical history of the patient, which is an account of the symptoms
experienced by the patient.
2. The physical examination of the symptoms experienced by the patient
3. The medical data, which becomes part of the patient’s medical record
 Dental Examination - Regular dental examination is essential in keeping a person’s oral health and
dental well-being. It is part of a comprehensive oral examination to evaluate the mouth and teeth.
Moreover, a dental exam offers the dentist the opportunity to provide the patient with tips and
recommendations on caring for the teeth. Dental care begins with its assessment, followed by
diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
 Self-breast Examination for Girls - Breast examination is done to feel any changes that might have
occurred in its structure. A personal breast examination should be conducted every month. When
one conducts a breast examination on a regular basis, then the individual develops an intimate
understanding of the structure of her breast. This will make her able to tell immediately if a lump, no
matter how small, is present.
 Testicular Examination for Boys - Teen boys are advised to have a regular monthly testicular self-
examination. It is something every teenage boy should learn to do correctly. It takes practice to do
the testicular examination correctly and learning how to do it is a great step toward taking care of
one’s health. Testicular cancer commonly strikes those who are in their mid -teens to their mid-
twenties.

IV. Going Further (Asynchronous)

 In three sentences, describe how each health appraisal procedure below is performed:
1. Height and Weight
2. Vision Screening
3. Scoliosis Test
4. Physical Health Examination
5. Dental Examination
6. Self-breast Examination (for girls only)
7. Testicular Examination (for boys only)

V. Checking Out (Asynchronous)

 Based on the things you learned about health appraisal, write a reflection on the things you learned in this
lesson and their relevance to you. Tell how you can apply what you have learned in your daily life and cite
specific instances in which you feel these learnings will come handy. Take a picture of your response and post
it on your Google Classroom.
