TNM GSM Swap Project Optimization Report - Cluster - 1
TNM GSM Swap Project Optimization Report - Cluster - 1
Introduction
This report presents an RF system check and analysis of performance for Malawi TNM GSM
network which was swapped by Huawei GSM BSS equipment. Intensive drive tests have been
conducted to outline the current network status.

TNM GSM Swap Project Optimization Report Cluster_1
We have analyzed DT test data and OMC KPI statistics, and compared the KPIs before and after
Swap, the result as below.
The table above shows OMC KPI statistic. The KPI statistics above were collected for the busy hour of
each cell from 06th Dec 2012 to 12nd Dec 2012 before swap and from 28th Mar 2013 to 03rd Apr
2013 after swap.
One of the methods deployed during the analysis of the Network Audit was the Drive Test .DT enable
RNP engineers to check existing Wireless parameters, Project parameters, Frequency parameters as
well as Coverage of the existing Network.

1 Summary
This report presents an RF system check and analysis of performance for Malawi TNM GSM
network which was swapped by Huawei GSM BSS equipment. Intensive drive tests have
been conducted to outline the current network status.
3.1 DT Introduction
Drive test route:
The route is defined after considering the terrain, target subscriber population distribution
and sites location as well as the road network.
Testing equipment:
A suit of Probe DT equipment, one personal computer, one GPS, one Huawei test phone,
one SIM card and one car.
Testing Personnel:
Huawei RNP engineer
Testing Time:
Before Swap: 25th November, 2012
After Swap: 19th March, 2013

We have changed some azimuth and down tilt to improve the coverage, and the results shows
network coverage and quality have improved.

Description: At the position in the figure above, the UE receive the Karonga_2 signal, but both
the coverage and quality were poor.
Analysis: The figure above before swap shows the poor coverage and quality, the figure
showed the phone used the signal of Karonga_2 in Karonga_1 coverage area,
because Karonga_2 got cross feeder with karonga_1.
Suggestion: checking the sector swap problem for the site of Karonga
Optimization result: Cross feeder Problem is solved. We adjusted azimuth and downtilts for
Karonga_1 hence Signal Coverage and Quality have improved.

7 Conclusion
During and after Site Cutover, we performed Cluster Optimization, Neighbor relation
Optimization, Frequency Optimization, to improve the Network quality and Coverage. The
Statistics in this report shows that Receiver Quality and Level have improved. And all Network
problems (High Call Drop Rate, Low Handover Success rate and low Call setup Success
rate) have been minimised. The current network has the better performance than old
network. With the continuous development of customer and the improvement of customer
request, a whole best network performance needs to be maintained continuously due to the
network environment which is dynamically changing.
