BARANGAY 10, SAN MIGUEL

THE HISTORY OF BARANGAY 10 SAN MIGUEL

In the beginning there were a big number of settlers along the Padsan river of
Sarrat, formerly municipality of San Miguel. At the southern part they settle because
of the vast and fertile land along the Padsan River. They cultivated the land and
planted vegetables, corn, rice and malunggay for their foods. And since malunggay
grown well in the area, they called the place Kamarunggayan.

In 1855 it became a barrio and it was first called Barrio 10, San Nicolas, after
which it was named Barangay 10 San Nicolas. But because of problem of identity of
its place and location, just adjacent to the municipality of San Nicolas, (often times
mails are miss sent because it was adjacent to the municipality of San Nicolas), in
1995, a resolution was passed by the Sangguniang Barangay to change the name to
Barangay 10 San Miguel to the Sangguniang Bayan of Sarrat, and at the same time
the Sangguniang Bayan of Sarrat passed the needed resolution for its change of
name. On December 23, 1995, the National Historical Institute confirmed the change
of name, so it was called BARANGAY 10 SAN MIGUEL, Sarrat, Ilocos Norte.

Barangay 10 San Miguel is known to be the center of trade, commerce and

industry of the south of the river of Sarrat. It houses several business
establishments, a public market, gasoline station, the Sta. Rosa de Lima Parish, the
Sta. Rosa National High School and among others.
