State regionalism, also known as old regionalism, involves coordination between countries through international organizations where members are represented by states. It tended toward creating protective economic blocs through encouraging trade between member states while discouraging trade with outside countries via trade barriers. State regionalism focused more on interactions between states. Non-state regionalism, or new regionalism, involves international organizations whose members are common people or groups rather than states. These non-state actors have significant economic, political, or social influence without being aligned with any single country. New regionalism was more open to trade outside of regions and exposed regional industries to global competition to incentivize success in international markets. State regionalism (old regionalism)

An international organization in the region whose members are represented by states.

It is the coordination of countries and a general phenomenon or may refer to a formal project, policy, or
scheme promoted by regional states and the term actually encompasses a broader area

he old form of regionalism tended toward protectionist economic

blocs, where trade between member countries was encouraged but
trade with countries outside the bloc was discouraged by external
trade barriers
which was oriented more toward interactions between states

Non-state regionalism (new regionalism)

An international organization in the regions whose members are common people or philanthropists and
not directly connected to the states.

individuals or organizations that have powerful economic, political or social power and are able to
influence at a national and sometimes international level while not belonging to or ally themselves to
any particular country or state.

new regionalism was more open, permitting trade with countries from
outside distinct regions. In this context, it was argued that this open
form offered regional industries exposure to global competition and,
together with other means of encouragement, the necessary incentives
to compete in the global marketplace
involved a variety of state and non-state actors involved in a process of
transformation of the world order
globalization affected new regionalism, which in turn participated in shaping globalization.
Discuss and Differentiate Comprehensively: State Regionalism and
Non-State Regionalism.
A state regionalism or known as the old regionalism is an international
organization in the region whose members are represented by states. One
example of these organizations is the NATO or North Atlantic Treaty Organization
In this type of regionalism, it is believed that increased economic cooperation
leads to increased political cooperation between two or more nations. Unlike
non-state regionalism, state regionalism is tended toward protectionist economic
blocs, where trade between member countries was encouraged but trade with
countries outside the bloc was discouraged by external trade barriers.
Another difference is that; state regionalism was oriented more towards
interactions between states compared to non-state regionalism. And the last is
who is considered as a relevant actor, in the state regionalism the Nation-state is
the pre-eminent actor while in non-state regionalism, proponents hold that non-
state actors like NGO’s and other interested social groups, must be considered
when analyzing how and why regions choose to integrate.
