Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, we have always been aware of how dynamic things have been

occurring around us. Until this epidemic, change had never been so obvious to all of us. Our society's behavioral
landscape has evolved from one that values groups, family gatherings, clicking, and travel outside of our local area
to one that values remaining at home and so-called social distancing, which refers to physical distance to decrease
virus transmission. Last week I participated in a national webinar on Language, Society, and Culture of Pre and Post
Covid19 Pandemic: Challenges, Lessons and The ways Forward. The goal of this webinar is to provide the audience
the lesson, idea, and ways forward for the college of arts and sciences. I intended to do a deeper dive and reflection,
but as I clean up old blog post drafts, some things must be let go. That said, some very pragmatic things emerged
and were captured, so I’m circling back to share my opinion. Being an undergraduate student, the webinar is
important to me as I know in the future this will help me gain a lot of insights and knowledge since my course is
related to arts and sciences.

In the first talk, the speaker, Jiolito L. Benitez he talked about what he called phronesis in the time of
pandemic, phronesis, translated into English by terms such as prudence, practical virtue, and practical wisdom is an
ancient Greek word for a type of wisdom or intelligence relevant to practical action. Simply it is the deliberation of
excellent work of action. He relates his topic, phronesis to the global pandemic COVID-19 and claimed that
COVID-19 behavior betrays sociality; it survives by mutating, transmitting, infecting people and it does so across
global pathways that are both physical and social. He also talks about how Covid-19 is a real existential threat to
individual and communal life that will lead to panic. And people that are panic tend to make poorly thought
decisions and rash actions with far-reaching consequences and it needs individual and collective responses to fight
it. He also mentioned some of the famous philosophers like Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, with how each one of their
philosophical wisdom and scientific knowledge plays a part in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The second speaker, Alexis Deodato S. Itao who is a doctor in philosophy talks about what he called;
towards a deeper dialogic encounter. His topic provides people with knowledge about Gadamer’s Hermeneutic
theory and how it is used toward a deeper dialogic encounter. He began by explaining the three subsections of
Gadamer’s Hermeneutical theory: Gadamer’s Initial Description of Understanding, The Hermeneutical Situation and
the Concept of Horizon, and The Indispensability of Textual Intercourse. (……………)

I learned so many things from the speakers, being a youth, I learned how to be motivated, trained, and
organized and I develop my physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual, and social well-being despite of the threat covid-
19.
