Function
The Radiamatic temperature detector
generates an emf proportional to the
temperature of the object sighted. It is
used with potentiometric instruments to
record, indicate or control the
temperature.
Description
Metal case with corrosion resistant
finish. Gasketed metal cover shields
terminals from dust and contaminants 939-1-2
(on all models except Miniature). Rigid
binding posts connect 12 ga. or smaller
copper lead wires to instrument. Moun-
ting attachments available to provide
easy means of mounting unit. Figure 1 —General purpose or high speed Radiamatic models
Available in five models: General Pur-
pose, High Speed, Small Target, Low
Range and Miniature.
When selecting the Radiamatic detec-
tor best suited for an application it is
necessary to consider:
1. Target temperature and the
temperature of surrounding objects.
2. Target size.
3. Target distance from detector lens.
4. Target emittance and reflectance.
5. Type of enclosure the heated object
is in and, if in the open, the percen-
tage of heat emitted in such an
application.
6. Sighting path taking into considera-
tion any vapors or gases. Figure 2—Small target Radiamatic detector
7. Sighting angle if a non-blackbody
application.
Lens
Lens materials are Pyrex, fused silica
and calcium fluoride. Threaded flanges
at the lens and on the optical
diaphragm inside the housing prevent
reflections and marginal rays from
reaching the thermopile. Lenses with-
stand external pressures of 10 psi. A
wide variety of lens angles are
available. 939-83
Thermopile
The thermopile is a radial assembly of
minute thermocouples wired in series.
Radiant energy is focused directly on

highest sensitivity. The portion of the
thermopile that is exposed to the ra-
diant source is blackened to increase
absorption of energy.
