(a) Madhya Pradesh is the second largest Indian state by area and the fifth largest state by population with over 75 million residents. It borders the states of Uttar Pradesh to the northeast, Chhattisgarh to the southeast, Maharashtra to the south, Gujarat to the west, and Rajasthan to the northwest. 2. (b) Mr.D. Due to abundance of mineral resources, mainly coal and Power Plants Singrauli is emerging as India's energy capital. 11. The Tapi River originates in the Betul district. 14. (d) Dhupgarh or Dhoopgarh is the highest point or peak in the Satpura Range. It has an altitude of 1350 m. It is not only the highest point of Pachmarhi but also the highest point of Madhya Pradesh and Central India. 15. (b) The Pench Tiger Reserve and its neighborhood is the original setting of Rudyard Kipling's most famous work, The Jungle Book. Many of The Jungle Book's locations are actual locations in Seoni District, like the Waingunga river with its gorge where Sherkhan was killed, Kanhiwara villlage and the 'Seeonee hills'. 17. (d) Ghughwa National fossils Park is situated 70km from Dindori in village Ghughwa. It is nestled in an area of 75 acres of land where attractive and rare fossils of leaves and trees are waiting to be explored. This National Park has plants in fossil form that existed in India anywhere between 40 million and 150 million years ago. Petrified trunks of trees have been identified as gymnosperms and Angiosperms Monocotyledons and palms. Depending on the age in which the Pangaea split into Laurasia and Gondwana land occurred, the fossils belong to either Jurassic or Cretaceous Age. 18. (b) The Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka are in the foothills of the Vindhyan Mountains on the southern edge of the central Indian plateau. Within massive sandstone outcrops, above comparatively dense forest, are five clusters of natural rock shelters, displaying paintings that appear to date from the Mesolithic Period right through to the historical period. The cultural traditions of the inhabitants of the twenty- one villages adjacent to the site bear a strong resemblance to those represented in the rock paintings. 19. (b) Among the many Mauryan (322-185 BCE) monuments stands a muddy stupa—110m wide and 32m high—on the outskirts of the city. The Kanipura stupa, which lies buried under the mound of Vaishya Tekri (merchant’s hillock), is a red brick structure that is covered with black soil. A preliminary excavation was done by the archaeology department of Gwalior state in 1936. It was, however, abandoned for reasons unknown. In 1951, the stupa was declared a protected monument. Archaeologists have confirmed its connection to Emperor Ashoka and his first wife, Devi. A 2015 book—Ashoka in Ancient India—by historian Nayanjot Lahiri also mentions the hillock and stupa. 20. (c) The festival is being organised by Department of Culture, Madhya Pradesh, will be held against the backdrop of iconic Khajuraho temples, built by Chandela dynasty between 950 and 1050 AD, world —wide know for erotic sculptures. The festival will showcase classical dances, including Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Odissi and Kuchipudi, depicting the ancient tales like - ‘Mahishasur Mardini’ and ‘Krishna Rasa,’ an official said.
