Negative Feedback Mechanism: Diagram Explanation Diagram Explanation

This document provides examples of negative and positive feedback mechanisms in the human body that maintain homeostasis. For negative feedback, it describes how high body temperature triggers sensors that signal the hypothalamus to command sweat glands to release sweat and cool the body down. For positive feedback, it explains how labor contractions trigger the pituitary gland to release oxytocin, which causes stronger contractions to push the baby out and restore homeostasis after childbirth. Diagrams are included to illustrate both feedback loop processes.

Activity 1.2. HOMEOSTATIC RESPONSES IN THE HUMAN BODY Directions.

Search
for one example of homeostatic responses in the human body in each type of feedback
mechanism: (a) negative and (b) positive. Draw a schematic diagram of the mechanism
that depicts the organs involved and the process.

NEGATIVE FEEDBACK MECHANISM

Body temperature rising is an

example of event in which the body
thrusts itself to a negative feedback
loop mechanism do induce
homeostasis. (1) The detection of
high temperature triggers the
sensors in the skin and brain—the
information is (2) sent to the
Hypothalamus which then regulates
the temperature by (3) sending a
command to the sweat glands to do
its job (to release heat in the form of
sweat) to cool down the body to a
proper balanced temperature.

Adaption.

It is a negative feedback loop

mechanism because it undergoes a
process that aims to “lessen” or
“stop” a certain bodily event in order
to restore homeostasis. This is
clearly demonstrated in the diagram.

POSITIVE FEEDBACK MECHANISM

During labor, the cervix sends impulses to the brain which tells it that labor is happening
RIGHT NOW. The specific part of the brain which is the pituitary gland is activated and
sends oxytocin to the uterus through the bloodstream. You might ask what oxytocin
does. It taps the uterus for to react—to contract and this contraction purposely happen to
push the baby out of the uterus itself.

Labor.

This is a positive feedback loop mechanism because the process happens to induce or
boost a certain event—to restore homeostasis after a job (childbirth itself).
