Hi. My name’s Tania. During the week I live in Pachuca

Hidalgo. I’m studying at UPMH. I like living here
because there are lots of places to go out, like clubs,
movies, coffe shops, restaurants, etc. There are a lot
of restaurants and cafés too but they are quite
expensive and the food isn’t very good. I prefer the
traditional food in local markets. Transportation
around Pachuca is not very expensive, however, I
think it is sometimes slow, so if you are in a hurry,
you’d better take a taxi, bu it isn’t very cheap. There
aren’t many buses here. The “TuzoBus” is the
cheapest transport in the city and it is comfortable.

Now, there are more roads and bridges but there is a lot of traffic most of the time. I think, it isn’t very safe to
walk the streets at night. Living in Pachuca is not cheap. I rent a small apartment with a friend and I pay $1200
every month. Anyway, I think Pachuca is still a great place to live. If you are a careful person you won’t have any
problems living here.

1. READ THE TEXT AND ORDER THE EVENTS FROM 1 TO 5.

Wedding Anniversary

Every year my family and I go camping on a beautiful national park near Huasca for Spring Break.
This year we decided to do something different. We went to the beach because it was my parents’
25th wedding anniversary and it was a very special occasion to celebrate.

My brothers and I booked a nice hotel near the beach and made reservations for a great seafood
restaurant to celebrate the big day. We were there for five days and we did many things together. On
the first day, we took a tour of the city early in the morning and relaxed by the pool all afternoon. The
next day, we stayed at the hotel and used all the facilities. It was a big hotel, so there were many
things to do and see.

On the big day, we all got ready for the big party at the restaurant. It was wonderful. The waiters sang
for my parents and we danced all night. They had the best time ever. The next morning, we were
really tired but happy. That day, we all surfed in the nearest beach and ate a delicious “pescado
zarandeado” on a lagoon near our hotel. Unfortunately on the last day we had to return home early
because there was a storm coming and we didn't want to travel on bad weather.

My family and I had a great time and we are thinking in going to the beach more often.

Last vacation my friend Elizabeth and I went to Venice. We stayed in a wonderful hotel with a fantastic view of
the city. We didn’t want anybody else to go with us, but my boyfriend David begged to go with us, so I said yes.
Venice was amazing and the weather was fantastic, but the holiday was a disaster for a simple reason. David is
a very jealous person so every time we went somewhere we argued a lot. For example, every time we were
having lunch, I couldn’t even look around or go to the bathroom alone because he thought I would talk to
some other men. One night we were at a club, we were sitting and having a drink when suddenly, a man came
and ask me if I wanted to dance with him. David got mad and almost started a fight. I was so ashamed that I
decided to go back to the hotel. During the last day, I only wanted to
go home, but my friends invited us to go on a Gondola.
Unfortunately, there were other tourists in it and they started talking
to us. David was still angry about the club situation, he was so mean
because he was only looking at his phone. Later, we were waiting for
our flight back to Mexico when I decided to tell David I wanted to
break up with him. It was hard for him but he finally accepted. So,
my advice is never go on vacation with a person you aren’t sure
about the relationship.

My parents loved to travel when they were young. They have traveled to many different

married couple. They did not have a lot of money so they decided to go to Puebla and
stayed in a small hotel downtown. They visited many places in Puebla and were having a lot
of fun until my father’s parents arrived. My grandfather was very strict and he did not like to
do many things. One day, it was raining really hard and my grandfather did not want to
leave the hotel so they had to stay there playing board games. My mom was really mad.
Luckily, the next day the weather changed. The sun was shining and they had the
opportunity to go to Cholula. While they were in Cholula, my grandfather did a very strange
thing while they were eating in a restaurant. He stood up and told my mom “I know you are
pregnant and you’ll have a baby girl”. My mom was shocked because it was true. She was
waiting for the right moment to tell my dad. They all cried and celebrated the good news.
From that moment on, my grandfather became the sweetest person I’ve ever known.

THE SENTENCES ARE TRUE OR FALSE.

As Felipe Montero was looking at the newspaper a job post caught his eye. The poster was looking for
a French-speaker to perform secretarial duties, to assist a woman organize and finish the memories of
her died husband, General Llorente. This stroke Montero because he felt the posting was describing
everything about him. For some days, Montero ignored the posting, assuming someone would get the
job, but every time Montero returned to the newspaper, he felt he had to go and investigate.

The house was completely dark. He entered and heard a voice calling for him, guiding him through the
house. He went upstairs to a room where Consuelo, the widow, was lying on the bed. She started
explaining Montero’s duties. While she was talking, the widow’s niece, Aura, entered the room.
Montero was immediately caught by her bright green eyes. As the days were passing, Montero found
that Aura hardly ever spoke. Soon, Montero was unable of getting rid of Aura’s image and he started
fantasizing about her. One day, Montero entered into Aura’s bed. As he was holding her in bed, Aura
transformed into Consuelo, the widow, and he transformed himself in General Llorente, Consuelo’s
husband.

Susan’s birthday party

Hi,
Hope you are OK. Susan’s birthday is next Saturday and I was thinking of organizing a party for her. It
could be a surprise party. We could invite our classmates and we can make something like a potluck
dinner. That way we could save money. Can we make it in your house? You know that my apartment is
so small so it is impossible to do it there. We can ask Liz and Pam to take their laptop and their speaker
for the music. What time can we start?
Well, let me know if you agree or you can think of something different.
See you!
