I not clearly understood, contact manufacturer for an explanation ‘The equipment must be handled with care by qualified and trained personnel advance. Request for a manufacturer authorised service engineer well Pay attention to the WARNINGS, CAUTIONS and instructions All authorities safety regulations must be obeyed. * Scope of supply In order to provide a correct and complete explanation, the function of equipment not supplied by manufacturer is also described. Note that the relevant contract specifies the Scope of Supply and is the only valid definition of the items that are supplied by manufacturer. Preparation by the yard Before installation of equipment, the yard has to make preparations to the ship. Preparations and conditions that are considered “normal yard practice” are not described Shore power ‘Shore power must be provided during installation and commissioning, and must fully comply with the equipment requirements, Accessibility Several components have large dimensions and / or need extra space during installation, operation and maintenance. Transport & storage Several components are heavy and / or have large dimensions, or are to be treated with special care and attention ‘Adequate transport means must be used during any handling in the ship, at the yard and during transport to / from manufacturer. The instructions on the packing must be observed First time installation First time installation requires special activities, like mounting or welding the equipment in the ship structure, alignment procedures, installation work of hydraulic piping and electric cabling, first time oil fil and others, These activities are referred to in the procedures. Installation installation starts after the ship is prepared. There can be large time intervals between installation periods for major system units. Contact the service department timely for assistance schedules. Commissioning Commissioning starts after installation of the equipment is completed. Contact the service department timely for assistance schedules Trials Trials are divided in dock trials (ship afloat, running prime mover) and sea trials (Ship at sea) Contact the service department timely for assistance schedules. The Yard aligns the thruster in the vessel by cutting the stiffener plates and temporary tack welding, ‘The Yard fixates the thruster in the structure by welding the upper flange and vertical stiffeners according to a welding procedure, supplied by WPNL. The yard can completes the mounting of the thruster, after preserving the inside, by closing the opening between the thruster and shell plating. The opening is closed using filing plates welded from the outside. 1.4.2 The thruster The power of the prime mover (diesel engine) is transmitted through a shafting system to the clutch cn the input shaft of the upper gearbox. The upper gearbox is positioned on top of the stembox flange. The secondary shaft of the upper gearbox is connected to the primary shaft of the propeller gearbox through a vertical intermediate shaft Atriple lip seal with ceramic coated liner is provided between the rotating steering pipe and the stationary stemmbox. The propeller gearbox is bolted to the steering pipe, which is carried on roller bearings inside the stembox. Geared hydraulic motors drive the steering gear. ‘The secondary shaft of the propeller gearbox (propeller shaft) is fitted with @ controllable pitch propeller. The propeller shaft is sealed with a triple lip seal, running at a liner with ceramic coating, 14.1.3 Auxiliary systems 1.1.3.1 Lubrication system ‘The upper gearbox is fitted with a forged lubrication system, consisting of a electrical driven triple pump (circulation, level and static pressure pump), oil return fiter, cooler, header tank, controls and alarms. The level pump maintains the operational oil level in upper gearbox in order to minimise churning losses; however, when the thruster is idle the upper gearbox is automatically flooded with lubrication oil to prevent condensation. During operation, an amount of oil from upper gearbox will be stored in the header tank Note: In the event of level pump failure the thruster may be operated at reduced input speed, depending on temperature of upper gearbox. ‘The propeller gearbox, including the space inside the stembox, is fully flooded with lube oil and provided with a circulation system, using the same circulation pump (and therefore the same. lubrication system) as the upper gearbox. The lube oil pump sucks oil from the lowest part of the propeller gearbox via a suction pipe and a rotary seal in the stembox, and a suction pipe in the propeller gearbox. ‘The same suction line may be used to drain lube oil from the thruster (stembox and propeller gearbox) in case of oil change with the vessel afloat File name DMTEDD0076_00.doc, Last printed 09-04-04 11.38, 1 Document title | WARTSILA System description ce ae re DuTEDOOOTE fev [00 Page [22 ‘The static pressure pump supplies the oll back to the propeller gearbox. The oil flows from the header tank via the stembox (inside of steering pipe) to the propeller gearbox. ‘The static pressure pump provides a positive static pressure difference between the oil and the surrounding seawater to support the function of the propeller blade seals, the propelier shaft seals and the steering pipe seals, 1.1.3.2 Pitch actuating system ‘The hydraulic pitch actuating system (using lube oil is integrated in the lubrication system. Two electrical driven gear type pitch pumps (2x50%), supply the oil for pitch actuating. The stembox of the thruster is used as tank. The oil flow is controlled between zero and maximum for both directions of pitch setting by a proportional valve. The control valve is set by the LIPSTRONIC control system. The pitch system includes all necessary elements for proper functioning such as safety valves, control valves, cooler, pressure filter and alarms. 1.1.3.3 Hydraulic steering system ‘The hydraulic steering system uses a different type of oil ‘The power for steering is supplied by two closed circuit piston pumps (2x50%), using hydraulic oil Each hydraulic variable displacement pump is electrically driven. The oil flow to the steering motors, is controlled between zero and maximum for both rotation directions of the thruster. The hydraulic system includes all necessary elements for proper functioning such as safety valves, control valves, tank, cooler, filters and alarms.
