Teenage pregnancy: More should be done to prevent teenage pregnancy

An American actress and political activist once said, “It is about time we make
the well-being of our young people more important than ideology and politics. As a
country, we benefit from investing in their future by investing in teen prevention”.
Teenage pregnancy is described as the pregnancies of woman who is under the age of
20, being sexually active teenage moms are less likely to finish high school, are more
likely to live in poverty, have children with health and developmental issues, and have
shattered future. Understanding the risk factors for teenage pregnancy is essential to
lowering teenage motherhood rates and augment teenagers graduating and having their
best life in near future. The dangers and realities of teenage parenthood have been
widely documented, with ramifications beginning with childbirth and lasting for both
mother and child throughout their lives. There should be done more to prevent teenage
pregnancy as the Philippine hero widely known as Dr. Jose Rizal said, “Ang kabataan
ang pag-asa ng bayan” translated in English as “Our young children are our country’s
hope”

pregnancy prevention”. Teenage pregnancy is described as pregnancies among women
under the age of 20 and childbearing impose significant social and economic
consequences on teen parents and their offspring in the short and long term. Teenage
moms' children are more likely to have lower academic success and drop out of high
school, as well as to have greater health problems, to be incarcerated at some point
during adolescence, to give birth as a teenager, and to suffer unemployment as a young
adult. In some reason, teenage pregnancy is mainly occurring because of lack of
knowledge about the awareness during the sexual intercourse and reproductive health
and rights. In addition, as of the present time having sexual relations is somehow now
considered to be normal even both parties are not yet married. On the other hand, the
latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority in a statement, stating that the
number of Filipino minors who gave birth in 2019 jumped to 62,510 from 62,341 in
2018. According to the report of CNN Philippines staff, it is the eighth year in a row that
the country has seen an increase in teen pregnancies. Adolescent pregnancy continues
to be a significant cause of mother and child death and the shattered future of the
teenage mom. Furthermore, Pregnancy and delivery complications are the greatest
cause of death among girls aged 15 to 19. Due to their undeveloped bodies, pregnant
girls and teenagers face additional health risks and problems. The dangers and realities
of teenage parenthood have been widely documented, with ramifications beginning with
childbirth and lasting for both mother and child throughout their lives. Teenagers should
be required to learn sexual intercourse awareness and prevention to counteract
teenage pregnancy.

One reason why teenagers should learn awareness and prevention as for
teenage pregnancy is living in poverty. With the fact that most of the teenagers getting
impregnated and their family into is not that financially stable and has more expenses
within just the household how else so outside on it. According to Gender and Health,
teen pregnancy rates among poor youth are five times higher than the national norm.
Teen pregnancy rates appear to be influenced by socioeconomic factors. There could
be a growing "lost generation" of young people who do not see why they should not get
pregnant because of lack in education about it. For some impoverished kids, particularly
females whose self-esteem fall off as they get older, sexuality may be the only thing
they value. If having a baby or getting pregnant at a young age make that much in the
country’s poverty rate, imagine the possible results that can occur when teenagers
especially those life without proper education, awareness and prevention concerning
teenage pregnancy. Along similar lines, it is widely known problem of parents whom
their children got pregnant are only and mostly accountable for it and not those parents
of the teenager who also made it happened. With the knowledge of teenage pregnancy
awareness and prevention, high rate of poverty and parents’ accountability for such
things to happen can be restrain. For those who do not want and irresponsible when the
time comes and suchlike things to happened being aware and knowledgeable about
teenage pregnancy is necessary.
