Foreword
ISO [the International Organization for Standardization] is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies (ISO member bodies}. The work of preparing international Standards is normally carried out
through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical
committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International
organisations. governmental and non-governmental. in Iiaison with ISO. also take part in the work.
ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission [IE] on all matters of
electrotechnical standardization.
The procedures used to develop this document and those intended for its further maintenance are
described in the ISOIIEC Directives. Part 1. In particular. the different approval criteria needed for the
different types of ISO documents should be noted. This document was drafted in accordance with the
editorial rules of the ISOIIEC Directives. Part 2 [see )-
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. ISO shall not he held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights- Details of
any patent rights identified during the development of the document will be in the introduction andfor
on the ISO list of patent declarations received [see ].
Any trade name used in this document is information given for the convenience of users and does not
constitute an endorsement.
For an explanation of the voluntary nature of standards. the meaning of ISO specific terms and
expressions related to conformity assessment. as well as information about lSO's adherence to the
World Trade Organization [WTO} principles in the Technical Barriers to Trade (TET) see mmstjsn

This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition [ISO 15609-1:2iII04). which has been
technicaily revised. It also incorporates the Corrigendum ISO 15609-1:2flU4fCor.1:20D5.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
— Elausel has been updated;
— editorial changes have been made;
— the former Note 1 in _-1.1 has been moved to regular text:
A list oI' all parts in the ISO 15609 series can be found on the [50 website.

Introduction
All new welding procedure specifications need to be prepared in accordance with this document
from the date of its issue. However. this document does not invalidate previous welding procedure
specifications made to former standards or specifications or previous editions of this document.
1 Scope
This document specifies requirements for the content of welding procedure specifications for arc
welding processes.
Details of the I513 15639 series are given in ISO ‘l5fil)7. The variables listed in this document are those
influencing the quality ofthe welded joint.
2 Normative references
The following documents are referred to in the text in such a way that some or all of their content

4.1 General
Welding procedure specifications cover all certain range of necessary infonnation to make a weld.
Some manufacturers prefer additionally to prepare work instructions for each specific job as part of
detailed production planning.
Ranges and tolerances, according to the relevant standard [see ISO 15607) and to the manufacturer's
experience, shall be speci lied where appropriate.
An example of the WPS-format is shown in Anneztfi .
