A. The Thar Desert has a very hot and dry climate.

A. Vegetation is very rare in a desert. Only cacti, babul
trees, date palms and thorny bushes can be seen in
desert areas.
4. What do men and women wear in Rajasthan?
A. In Rajasthan, men wear dhotis, kurtas and colourful
turbans. Women wear bright coloured skirts called
ghagras and cholis with odhnis.
5. Name any four folk dances of Rajasthan.
A. Kalbelia, Chari, Ghoomar, Fire, Kachchi Ghori.

1. Why is rainfall very scanty in the desert region of India


A. Rainfall is scanty in the desert region of India because the
Aravalli Hills do not allow the moisture-laden winds to
enter the desert.
2. State why there is a great difference in the day and night
temperatures in the desert regions.
A. There is difference in day and night temperature because
sand absorbs and loses heat quickly.
3. Who are banjaras?
A. Some people lead a nomadic life, travelling from place to
place looking for food for their cattle and to sell their
handicrafts. They do not have permanent homes. They are
called banjaras.
III. Long Answer Questions

1. Write a note on physical features of the desert region.


A. A desert is covered with a thick sheet of loose sand and
strong winds called sand storms.
 Forming small sand hills called sand dunes. These
storms are so strong that one can easily get lost
in them.
 Rainfall is very rare, but when it rains, it is a heavy
downpour forming lakes in depressions.
 Sāmbhar Lake is one such salt lake of the desert region.
 The only seasonal river that crosses the sandy desert is
Luni, which joins the Arabian Sea through the Rann of
Kutch in the state of Gujarat.
 Where water is found and agriculture is carried out, are
called oases.

2. Write a note on people of Rajasthan.


 People of Rajasthan are highly skilled in handicrafts
their handicraft products fetch a large income to our
country through export.
 Rajasthan is have a great passion for music and
dance.
 Rajasthan, men wear dhotis, kurtas and colourful
turbans.
 Women wear bright coloured skirts called ghagras
and cholis with odhnis.
 Both men and women cover their heads to protect
themselves from the scorching sun.
 Jainism and Hinduism are the major religions of the
people of Rajasthan.
