    1. In each of the following list of terms that continous a possible pattern, which of the
    sequences are arithmetic, which are geometric, and which are neither?

    a. 1,3,5,7,9

    It is an arithmetic sequence and the common difference is 2.


    3 −1=2 a 2 − a1=d ( common difference)
    To find the 6th term of an arithmetic sequence, we can use the formula:
    a 6=1+(6 − 1)2 a n=a1 +(n −1)d
    a 6=1+(5)2
    a 6=1+10
    a 6=11

    b. 3,6,12, 24,48

    It is a geometric sequence and the common ratio is 2.

    To find the 6th term of a geometric sequence, we can use the formula:
    a 6=3(26 − 1) a n=a1 (r n− 1)

    a 6=3(25 )
    a 6=3(32)
    a 6=¿96

    c. 9,13,17,21,25,29

    It is an arithmetic sequence and the common difference is 4.


    13 −9=4 a 2 − a1=d ( common difference)
    To find the 7th term of an arithmetic sequence, we can use the formula:
    a 7=9+(7 −1)4 a n=a1 +(n −1)d
    a 7=9+(6)4
    a 7=9+24

    2. A tank contains 15, 360 Liters of water. At the end of each day, half of the water is
    removed and not replaced. How much water is left in the tank after 10 days?
    1It is a geometric sequence and the common ratio is .5 (half of the water).
    Given: a 1=15,360 Liters of water
    a n=10 Days
    r =50 % of tℎe water
    To find how much water is left in the tank after 10 days, we can use the formula:
    a n=a1 (r n− 1)

    a 10=15,360(.510 −1)
    a 10=15,360(.59 )
    a 10=15,360(0.001953125)
    a 10=30
    Therefore, 30 Liters of water are left in the tank after 10 days.

    3. List the next 3 terms to continue a pattern in each the following:

    2+ 4=6

    30+12=42
    42+14=56
    56+16=72
    72+18=90

    The common difference is 1. So,
    51+1=52
    52+1=53
    53+1=54
    And so on…
    151+1=152
    152+1=153
    153+1=154

    d. 9,13,17,21,25...353,357,361,365
    The common difference is 4. So,
    9+4=13
    13+4=17
    17+4=21
    21+4=25
    And so on…
    353+4=357
    357+4=361
    361+4=365
