1. How do emerging technologies affect people?

As science expands our understanding of the world it can lead to the

emergence of new technologies. These can bring huge benefits, but also challenges,
as they change society’s relationship with the world. Scientists, developers and wider
society must ensure that we maximize the benefits from new technologies whilst
minimizing these challenges. Regulation is important here, but the research and
development process is also key. Which technologies are explored, and how they
develop, are decisions that shape and direct society. Therefore wider society must be
involved in deciding how technologies develop and where research and development
effort is focused. New technologies have always had the potential to redefine how
societies behave and how they interact with the world. These changes can bring huge
benefits, but also challenges and risks. Scientists and innovators must engage with
policy makers, civil society and the wider public to ensure that the technologies that
society wants and needs are developed to maximize the benefits, whilst ensuring that
the risks are understood by all the stakeholders, and reduced as far as is possible.
Emerging technology is viewed positively, particularly in terms of transmitting
information rapidly and efficiently. Other ways that technology is perceived as having
a good impact on society include greater knowledge and understanding,
advancements in industry and jobs, and the globalization-induced interconnection of
the world. New technological fields may result from the technological convergence of
different systems evolving towards similar goals. Technologies may one day allow us
to live healthy lives far into our 100s, improve our mental and physical talents, and
control our emotions. Technology may also allow us to create our own products, track
our thoughts, and make better decisions.

2. Choose one of the following prominent emerging technologies and explain how
does it affect the society?
Artificial intelligence has the potential to significantly increase the efficiency of
our workplaces while also augmenting the job that humans can accomplish. When AI
takes over mundane or dangerous duties, it frees up the human labor to focus on tasks
that require creativity and empathy, among other skills. People's happiness and job
satisfaction may enhance if they are doing work that they enjoy.
Artificial intelligence can have a significant impact on healthcare through
improving monitoring and diagnostic skills. AI can cut operating expenses and save
money by improving the operations of healthcare institutions and medical
organizations. According to McKinsey, big data might save medicine and pharma up
to $100 billion every year. The genuine impact will be felt in patient care. The ability to
create individualized treatment plans and pharmacological regimes, as well as
providing doctors with improved access to information from many medical facilities to
better advise patient care, will be life-changing.
Our society will gain countless hours of productivity with just the introduction of
autonomous transportation and AI influencing our traffic congestion issues not to
mention the other ways it will improve on-the-job productivity. Freed up from stressful
commutes, humans will be able to spend their time in a variety of other ways.

The way we uncover criminal activity and solve crimes will be enhanced with
artificial intelligence. Facial recognition technology is becoming just as common as
fingerprints. The use of AI in the justice system also presents many opportunities to
figure out how to effectively use the technology without crossing an individual’s
privacy.

Unless you choose to live remotely and never plan to interact with the modern
world, your life will be significantly impacted by artificial intelligence. While there will
be many learning experiences and challenges to be faced as the technology rolls out
into new applications, the expectation will be that artificial intelligence will generally
have a more positive than negative impact on society.

3. What do you think can we expect from the 5th industrial revolution and will it help
humanity?

The advance of the 5th Industrial Revolution (robotics, artificial intelligence,

augmented reality, virtual reality and the like) has produced a developing scenario in
which the service of humanity seems too often eclipsed by the momentum of
technology and commerce. This challenge has been highlighted recently, as some of
the leading innovators of the Fourth Industrial Revolution have begun to relinquish
their intellectual property because of the risks to them as the owners of it. These
captains of the Fourth Revolution surmise that the new technologies have the capacity
to be an Orwellian “enemy of the people”. Meanwhile, our economic engines continue
to roar and belch proverbial smoke into the air, as the world’s population grows and
the ideals of human flourishing are left wanting.

Humans have progressed as a society throughout history, whether through

social connections, education, technology, or other means. Humans continue to
improve our way of life by developing new technologies that make formerly time-
consuming and difficult chores simple and quick to do. Our healthcare and educational
systems have both improved. These breakthroughs become more significant and
common with each passing generation. These times of technical advancement have
come to be known as industrial revolutions. Each one brings a distinct quality or
technology to the table, which is a driving factor behind these movements. As time has
passed, the chasms separating these revolutions have narrowed.

4. How are five revolutions interrelated to each other?

Fundamentally, all revolutions are about social and/or political transformation,

a trait they all share in common. By definition, a revolution cannot be launched to
maintain or preserve the status quo. Beyond this fundamental, definitional similarity,
the common characteristics of revolution is a subject of debate. Typically, revolutions
take the form of organized movements aimed at effecting change—economic change,
technological change, political change, or social change. The people who start
revolutions have determined the institutions currently in place in society have failed or
no longer serve their intended purpose.
5. Do you think there would be a possibility of having 6th revolution? If yes what will it
be?

Yes, Nanotechnology, biotechnology, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence

are all possible emerging technologies. This is the point at where the physical, digital,
and biological worlds may collide. It is possible that two or three independent
technological systems could converge into one system, which would then trigger the
explosive take-off into the sixth technological revolution.

These kinds of questions are essential for developing a futures literacy. The
anticipatory systems view makes it possible to integrate the future into the present by
formulating diverse ways and several reasons for thinking about the future. Traditional
foresight models do not predict novelty, disruption, complexity, or a shift in paradigms.
This requires a new framework for connecting the theories and practices of ‘using the-
future’ and appreciating complexity.

6. What are the challenges that arise from human-machine and interaction and how it
does help us?

The communication and interaction between a human and a machine via a user
interface is referred to as human–machine interaction (HMI). Natural user interfaces,
such as gestures, are gaining popularity these days because they enable humans to
manage machines through natural and intuitive behaviours. However, not all of the
impacts are beneficial. While technology has helped to bridge a global divide by
connecting individuals through the digital world, those who are physically near together
are sometimes separated owing to their unwillingness to put their phones down. This
is referred to as "Virtual Distance." Furthermore, modern technology is frequently
linked to excessive exposure to EMFs and blue light, while developing children not
only face possible cognitive changes as a result of constant exposure to the above
factors, but also often grow up in a possibly more isolated manner as a result of
constantly being "wired" to their smart devices rather than physically spending time
with friends.

With the introduction of aircraft, trains, buses, cars, and computer/mobile

messaging and social media apps, communication, transportation, and interactions
with others are faster than ever before. Complex tasks are not just faster, but they are
also more efficient. Traveling from one end of the globe to the other, or even making
touch with someone on the opposite side of the world, would have taken months, if not
years, in antiquity. Today, those duties may be accomplished in a day or even minutes,
making life easier and more efficient in the modern world. "Time is money" for persons
with a hectic lifestyle and for enterprises, therefore conserving time and enhancing
task efficiency are essential.
