Steps:
1. Group the terms containing x
2. Factor out a

4. Express the perfect square trinomial as square of a
binomial.
Example 1:
Express y= ax2+bx+c in the form of y= a(x-h) 2+k and give the
values of h and k.

Solution 1:
y= (x2 -4x) -10
y= (x-2 -4x 4) -10 -4
y= (x-2) 2 -14

Example 3:

TRANSFORM QUADRATIC FUNCTION FROM
STANNDARD FORM y= a(x-h) 2+k INTO GENERAL
FORM.
Steps:
1. Expand the square of a binomial.
2. Multiply the perfect square trinomial square by a.
3. Simplify

Example 1:
Rewrite the equation y= 3(x-2)2 +4 in the general form y= ax2
+bx +c.
y= 3(x2 -4x +4) +4
y= 3x2 -12x +12 +4
y= 3x2 -12x +16

Example 2:
Rewrite the equation f(x)= (x-3)2 -4 in the general form f(x)=
ax2 +bx +c.
y= (x2 -6x +9) -4
y= x2 -6x +9 -4
y= x2 -6x +5
