Chapter Five Conclusions and Recommendations

This chapter summarizes the project, which involved designing and building a smart firefighting robot. The robot uses temperature and gas sensors to detect fires and extinguishes them automatically using a water spray. An Android app allows users to control the robot's movement via Bluetooth. The project was successful in quickly detecting fires within 1.5 meters. Recommendations include using solar power, building a more durable prototype, adding feedback systems to alert authorities, and using more powerful extinguishing agents.

CHAPTER FIVE

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

5.1 CONCLUSION
This chapter presents the final part of the project work. It sums up the entire work,
concludes the project and provides recommendations for future enhancement of the
application.

This project work has been about the design and fabrication of a smart firefighting system
with the ability to sense fire, give off an alarm to alert the residence of an impending fire
incident and put out the fire.

The designed vehicle is able to detect presence of fire and extinguishing it automatically
by using temperature sensor and gas sensors. This robot movement is controlled by the
D.C motors and the Arduino UNO microcontroller is responsible for coordinating the
actions of the robot, the sensors and also the firefighting response action.

For the practical part, Arduino Uno microcontroller was used as the control unit with
other necessary components. Every component is connected to the Arduino Uno
microcontroller and a program code is uploaded to the Arduino board.
The designed robot has a water spray attached to a water tank which is capable of

sprinkling water in 180o angle. The sprinkler can be move towards the required direction.
At the time of moving towards the source of fire it may happen that it will come across
some obstacles. To avoid obstacles an android application was designed to control the
movement of the robot. Communication between the mobile phone and robot was
established using Bluetooth module. This has a graphical user Interface to control the
movement of the robot. It is feasible to implement Bluetooth communication between
smartphones and micro-controller.
The project successfully achieved the speedy detection of fire outbreak by the use of
smart sensors interfaced with Arduino as the key control unit and the system has been
completely tested and has demonstrated good performance. It has a fast response time of
five seconds and the sensors are able to detect fire in the range of 1.5 meters.

The system provides a user friendly experience and easy to navigate environment. It is
hoped that the system will satisfy its users when been used.

The project has been a worthwhile educational experience. Although areas of difficulty
did occur, but through perseverance, focus, trial and error these challenges were
surmounted.

5.2 RECOMMENDATIONS

The entire system depends solely on a reliable power source to function in its optimal
capacity. It is therefore recommended that solar power should be used when
implementing the project in industries.

The robot designed in this project is a prototype. It is recommended that the r o b o t

w i t h a fireproof body should be built and should have control circuitry protected in
a fireproof casing. A production robot may have specifically designed robotic body
which can move around and enter any place with ease. It can have a larger battery
pack and a powerful water pump or motor fan mounted on it.
It is recommended that a feedback system such as an automatic SMS should be
implemented to enable the robot alert the residents and the firefighting authorities of
an impending fire incident even when they are away from the vicinity.
It is recommended that a rugged wheels and chassis should be used for industrial
applications. Also the extinguishing material should be CO2 gas or any other powerful
fire extinguishing material for effective firefighting.
