Course: Dance - Lesson: Tap Dancing
Class time: 10:30 - 12:20

*Friday A*
- small class. Usually 7 students. 5 students showed up.

How Alisha starts her class:


● Question of the day: What can i do while i am off next week or this
weekend to help someone else?
● Thoughts for sharing
● Laughs and has fun with her lessons.

Instructs plans/ Class agenda:


● Talks about what she expects out of activities and gives verbal
examples
● “Me then you, repeating exactly what I do” - demo

Scaffolding Techniques:
★ Video for students to see
★ Asks students to watch the video and to recognize one thing that they
enjoyed about the video or learned. - to keep them engaged and
watching.
★ Demonstration - gets students to come up with their own technique
and copies that as well. Every copy.
★ Observes students while being an example.

Class Management Techniques:


➔ Strong voice, but friendly to create a safe space to dance, and talk.
➔ “Oaky focus on me”
➔ Uses wait time
➔ Rule - stay within the four beats - like a learning objective

❖ Partner work -
❖ Alish is/can partner up with students for extra help or if the class is an
odd number.
❖ One-on-one observation with a student.
❖ Constantly giving verbal feedback to her students

Comments Alisha Makes:


➢ Engaging talk/ encouraging
➢ “That was cool”
➢ “I think this was interesq because…”
➢ “Do you have anything else to add?”
➢ “Thank you everyone!”
➢ “Five, six, me then you”
➢ “Please don’t talk when i am talking”
➢ “_Students name___ are you willing to do this with me? Great! Thank
you!”
➢ “Off your phone please!”
➢ Student asked if they could text back their brother for a ride home
after school. Alisha's answer: “Thank you for asking - yes”

Notes:
● Listens to her students - to keep them engaged uses music they are
excited and engaged with.
