Backup and Restore SIPLACE Pro Database Edition 03/2006 US
1 Introduction
This document describes how to manually backup and restore the database of a SIPLACE Pro
Installation.
Note:
The backup and Restore program requires .NET Framework.
This procedure can only be performed directly on the SIPLACE Pro Server that hosts the
database.

2 Planning Guide
2.1 General information
This procedure describes a basic backup and restore procedure, which simply copies the SIPLACE
Pro Database into one file. This makes it easy to take a snapshot of the whole database.
This procedure will not replace the automatic maintenance jobs that are created by
every installation on the SIPLACE Pro Server.
You should have a backup and restore strategy in addition to this manual backup
procedure.
Note
MSDE and SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition behave differently. With the MSDE-
based installation, you can only restore a full backup. You can not restore any point
in time.
In contrast, an SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition installation allows advanced user
to restore to a point when only a partial backup occurred. Only experienced
personnel should attempt this.

The Program detects the local database instance in use, which means the name of the
instance will be in the field called “Server name”.
You have the option to logon as local administrator with the NT Security Option. This has
the advantage of not using a password. Windows will do the task for you. However, if you
do not have local admin rights, you should choose to log in as „sa.“. Be sure to enter the
correct password in the field. Therefore you need the password of the database.

Note
The program checks for a legal file name and then offers possible actions. If you
specify an existing filename, the only allowed option is to make a restore. If you
specify a non-existing filename, the only allowed option is to make a backup.
This enforces the correct usage of the program.

After selecting the filename, you are allowed to restore the database.
Note
The Backup and Restore Program only replaces the database content. Other
programs that are currently running that connect to the SIPLACE Pro database
could potentially contain outdated data. To be sure this does not happen, stop all
programs and services that use the SP1, e.g. Desk, Line Control GUI or the SIS
server.
If there are programs using the SIPLACE Pro Server the following dialog appears, telling you that
active programs are still running during the restore operations.
Note
Databases from other computers have other IDs that are not always compatible with
the new computer where the restore is occurring. To avoid problems, the
Backup&Restore program automatically runs a repair script.
