1 Introduction
This document describes the configuration possibilities you have to implement a SIPLACE Pro
configuration in your factory. SIPLACE Pro has several possibilities to be configured as a distributed
system to fulfill your needs. This document should help you to understand your options.
Note:
SIPLACE Pro requires Microsoft ®.NET Framework 1.1, 1.1 SP1 and 2.0. If the setup program
does not find the Microsoft ®.NET Framework 2.0, the user is asked to install the framework
right from the product CD. If you decide to use the .Net Framework 1.1, 1.1 SP1 and 2.0, you
should carefully test other applications on your computer for compatibility with this version of
the Framework.
Note:
If you have configuration options not described in this document please contact your Regional
Service Center or the Technical Support Center.

1.2 Terminology
Windows Workstation Versions:
These are Windows XP Professional. These versions of Windows are designed to operate the
Workstation functions and they have one fixed restriction: Windows Workstation Versions only
support 10 network connections. This makes them suitable to operate as a small “server” to control
up to 7 machines.
Windows Server Versions:
This is Windows 2003 Server. This version can scale to support more client in the network.
SIPLACE Pro Server:
You can distribute several client in your factory to place functionality on locations where you need it.
At least one computer must operate as the SIPLACE Pro Server which is basically the database to
store the data physically on the disk. The SIPLACE Pro Server must not be installed on a Windows
Server Version.
SIPLACE Pro Clients:
The Client applications included in the software package are the SIPLACE Pro Desk (Desk),
SIPLACE Pro Line Control Gui (LCGui) and the SIPLACE Pro LineControlServer (LineControlServer).
All Client applications are using the SIPLACE Pro Interface (SPI) to access the SIPLACE Pro Server.
This might happen across computer boundaries.
Desk:
Graphics User interface to create and modify all engineering data in the database. This is the typical
application for the programmer. One feature of the Desk is the optimizer functionality which will create
setups for Jobs or Boards. This functionality might need extra resources for specific scenarios. If you
want optimize a Job with several boards in it, it will need additional memory and CPU power.
LineControlServer:
This SIPLACE Pro Client application operates as a communication Server for all SIPLACE machines.
It gets the data out of the SIPLACE Pro Server (as a Client to SIPLACE Pro Server), prepares the
machines recipe data and controls the data supply to the SIPLACE Machines (as a Server to the
SIPALCE machines).
SPI:
All Client applications are using the SIPLACE Pro Interface to access the SIPLACE Pro Server
functionality eventually over the network. 3rd Party application can be developed using this SIPLACE
Pro Interface. These can be located anywhere in your factory.
Machine Supply:
This the communication software integrated into the stations software of the SIPLACE machines. It is
always part of the stations software.

2.1.1 General
All software components are installed on one server. This is operated close to the line. Optionally a
second connection to the customer's network can be established via a second network card.
Only the connection between the LineControlServer and the SIPLACE machine must cross computer
boundaries over the network.

2.2.1 General
• In this configuration, the Service Department integrates a SIEMENS server into the customer's
network. The customer has to order integration resources for this to be done.
• The customer's network must meet certain requirements.
• This configuration permits clients of the various SIPLACE software products to be integrated into the
customer's network.
• A new SIPLACE Pro Server will be installed and the database of a MSDE based SIPLACE Pro
Server will be migrated.
When the participating computer is well integrated into the customer network, then it is possible to split
SIPLACE Pro client components onto different computer to suit the customer needs.
Here we have a dedicated SIPLACE Pro Server and Client operating as Programming System or Line
Control System.
