Activity 1
Directions: Please answer the following question items comprehensively. Kindly TURN IN your
answers in the google classroom.
1. State arguments for and against the following statement: there are other things more
valuable in an organization besides the people who work there.
Answer: Without people there is no organization. People provide the input for
process improvement which affects operating decisions, reduces costs, and increases profits.
People understand the processes that take place to keep the organization functioning. However,
there are other things more valuable in an organization besides the people who work there. And
one of those is Technology, Technology drives the organizations operations such as
communication, processing, and future design. Second, is Products, Products provide the very
purpose of the organization itself, without a product there is no need for an organization. And
lastly, is the Money/Revenue, it provides the need for the organizations existence, the main driver
for its purpose.
2. Of the seven tasks an HR manager does, which do you think is the most challenging?
Why?
Answer: The seven main roles that HRM plays in organizations are staffing, setting
policies, compensation and benefits, retention, training, employment laws, and worker
protection. With these seven tasks that an HR manager does, I think that the most challenging is
Retention because, Retention involves motivating employees to stay with the organization for the
longest period of time. Employees are inherently diverse and may form a complex workforce,
posing a challenge for the management in finding common ground. Even with solid strategies to
ensure great employee experience, a few employees may still become disengaged as the
programs don’t motivate them. There is also the perception that "grass is greener on the other
side" which makes employees always open to job opportunities with seemingly better pay or
culture. This is especially amplified by the changing workforce, comprising of mostly
millennials. Younger workers are ready to hop from job to job for quicker career advancement,
making retention tougher. Also, high employee turnover raises concern over a company and is a
costly exercise for any organization because high potential employees leave a gap.
4. Can you cite two (2) regulatory and statutory bases that are very relevant to DepEd personnel?
What are those, and why are they important
Answer: Quality education for all citizens at all levels is the mandate of the
constitution of the Republic of the Philippines. As stipulated in Article XIV, Section 1 of the 1987
constitution: “The state shall protect and promote the right of all the citizens to quality education
at all levels and shall take appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all”. Education
is essential for everyone. Education helps people earn respect and recognition. It is indispensable in
all aspect of life (personally, socially, physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually).
However, the unequal standard of education is still a major problem that needs to be solved.
Education plays a rudimentary role in our society that we cannot even imagine how life could be
without it. It is a determined element for the civilization of human society. It does not only help us
develop healthy surroundings but it also generates an advance community. As a matter of fact,
everything we create today is based on the knowledge that we obtain throughout our life by way of
education. The more developed life becomes the more necessary education is for everyone.
Right of teachers to professional growth is the mandate of the constitution of the Republic of the
Philippines. As stipulated in Article XIV, Section 5.4 of the 1987 constitution: “The State shall
enhance the right of teachers to professional advancement. Non- teaching academic and non-
academic personnel shall enjoy the protection of the State”. Professional development for anyone
is necessary, as new teaching information, techniques, and methods are continually being
updated and changed. The education and experience alone of the teachers will not be enough to
serve the teachers throughout their whole career. To revitalize the teaching career, we need to
take passionate action steps. Professional development is about life-long learning and growing as
an educator. We always have the potential to progress and refine our teaching skills. There is
always more to learn and new skills to attain. Professional development is important to teaching
success and can help us figure out why we make certain decisions and examine how we think
about and deal with certain situations.
