2. From my understanding, scientists should always involve the public, make their
work public, and fulfill their social obligations. Scientists should always state the facts
and the truth in their research and not be influenced by what the government wants
them to say to the public. A local example of this is the mandatory wearing of face
shields. Despite the fact that there is not enough scientific evidence that face shields
have a lot of beneficial effects in preventing COVID-19 cases and the World Health
Organization (WHO) does not require the use of face shields, our government
still requires the use of face shields. Filipinos refer to face shields as a financial burden
given by the government rather than protection to COVID-19.

3. Eugenics is a rare case of immoral science because of its vision that the characteristic
of a person is genetically determined, and it is said to be that poverty,
prostitution, and insanity are inherited from their parents or race. Though talents and
many desirable characteristics can also be inherited, it is not moral to say that you
should choose a man/woman that has desirable traits to breed with to eliminate those
races that have undesirable characteristics. However, modern eugenics now has a
positive side. As technology advances, they can now see whether the fetus has a genetic
disease, and with parents' consent, they can now avoid or cure those genetic diseases. As
Lewis Wolpert said, "it is better to accept abortions than have a child who is not wanted
and neglected".
4. We can ensure that scientist takes their social obligation or responsibility by making
scientist take their pledge before taking action in particular things. Just like the pledge
that sir Joseph Rotblat proposes to his fellow scientists (p.1254). By taking this pledge, a
scientist must use their knowledge in science and technology in moral and ethical ways,
that they would not use their education to harm human beings or the environment.
Adding to this pledge, a scientist must also consider and inform the public about the
implication of their work.
