Report of one day in-service training programme on "Kangaroo Mother

Care" on19th June 2013

Introduction :
Inservice education is a planned educational experience provided in the job setting and
closely identified with service in order to help the person to perform more effectively as a
person and as a worker.

Inservice education is defined on continued programme of education provided by the


employing authority, with the purpose of developing the competence of personnel in their
functions appropriate to the position they hold, or to which they will be appointed in service.

The aim of inservice education is to develop the ability for efficient working and the
capacity for continuous learning, so that one may adopt to changes with judgement and produce
profitable services which become an important tool for the health care of the society and nation
at large.

Inservice education must be planned, scheduled, documented and had on a continuing basis. It
should provide for the improvement of nursing care and service through increased proficiency
and knowledge.

Factors affecting in-service education :


The economic, social, medical and technological sciences which affect that society will affect
nursing in-service education. The related factors affect the in-service education programmes are

1. Cost of health care - In-service education programme may increase the efficiency of
nursing services, but it adds additional expenditure on health care delivery system.
2. Manpower - In-service education requires need qualified human resources, leads to
increase human resources.
3. Changes in nursing practice leads to frequent changes in the programmes and in-service
education.
4. Standards for nursing practice.
Several study reports show that nurses are having inadequate knowledge and practice
regarding early detection of high risk pregnancy. Mothers are also having lack of knowledge
regarding this. So, it is very much important to arrange some in-service programme on high risk
pregnancy for early detection and immediate management. After reviewing literature this topic
has been selected.

We, the Final Year M.Sc. Nursing students of W.B. Govt. College of Nursing , Burdwan
organised an inservice education programme on "Kangaroo Mother Care" on 19.06.2013 under
the valuable guidance of Mrs. Susmita Sengupta, Lecturer and Mrs Subhra Roy , of W.B. Govt.
College of Nursing ,Burdwan and with following group members.

Objectives :

The main purpose of inservice education is that at the end of the session, the participants will be
able to –
 develop current knowledge on Kanagaroo Mother Care.
 impart their knowledge in nursing practice for competent and efficient nursing care.
 improve their performance in the job area.

Specific Objectives :

After completion of the Inservice education programme the participants will be able –
1. To define the Kangaroo Mother Care.
2. To assesss the benefits of kangaroo mother care. .
3. To counsel the mother for kangaroo mother care.
4. To develop skil in kangaroo mother care

Objectives for the Organizers :

The organizers will be able -


 To plan, organize and implement a inservice education programme systematically.
 To evaluate the effectiveness of the inservice education programme in terms of skill in the
Kangaroo Mother Care.

Lecture, Discussion ,HRole play, demonstration , Return demonstration by the students.

Welcome address in the inaugural session for one day Inservice education programme on
"Kangaroo Mother Care" on 19.06.2013

Very good morning to all guests, dignitaries and participants. On behalf of the Principal,
Faculty and M.Sc. Nursing Students of W.B. Govt. College of Nursing, I extent my warm
welcome to the guests, dignitaries and participants present here on this auspicious occasion of
one day inservice education programme on "Kangaroo Mother Care".

It is great honour for me to welcome MSVP BMCH,Burdwan Dr.Asit Baran Samanta has
kindly agreed to grace the chair of the Chief Guest in this inaugural session. I am extending my
heartiest welcome toMadam . S .Sengupta Senior lecturer, Govt. College of Nursing,Burdwan to
grace the chair of President in this inaugural session. I express great pleasure to welcome Smt.
Chandrani Mukherjee , Govt. College of Nursing for her presence.

Vote of Thanks

A very good morning to all. At the end of the inaugural session, it my great previlege to offer
vote of thanks to all of you, on behalf of the M.Sc. Nursing students of Govt. College of
Nursing, Burdwan.

First of all I would like to deliver my cordial thanks to our honourable Chief Guest Dr Asit
Baran Samanta, MSVP, BMCH, Burdwan for his kind presence and his remarkable message for
us, inspite of his busy schedule. Special thanks has been offered to the Principal, W. B.Govt.
College of Nursing Burdwan for providing us the opportunity to conduct this programme
.Special thanks to the madam Susmita Sengupta for her valuable speech and heartiest thanks to
Madam Chandrani Mukherjee .Heartiest thanks to madam Subhra Roy for her guidance and
support. Heartfelt thanks to the nursing superintendent of concerned hospital for sending the
staff nurses as participants without which it was not possible to organize the programme.
Special thanks to the participants those who have showed interest for updating the knowledge..
Lastly thanks to them who are behind the screen.

After completion of the inaugural session we have started our academic session. according to the
programme schedule. During seminar the theory part has been discussed and afterwards the
demonstration session. The content which has been covered during the session attached with the
report. At the end of the programme has been evaluated by the opinion from the staff nurses
with the help of an opinion.
