Human resource management (HRM):

HRM is the practice of recruiting, hiring, deploying and managing an


organization's employees. HRM is often referred to simply as human
resources (HR). HRM is employee management with an emphasis on
those employees as assets of the business.

Human resource planning (HRP):


HRP is the continuous process of systematic planning ahead to achieve
optimum use of an organization's most valuable asset quality
employees. Human resources planning ensures the best fit between
employees and jobs while avoiding manpower shortages or surpluses.

 SIMILARITIES BETWEEN HRM AND


HRP:

 HRM stands for Human Resource and


Management. HRP stands for Human Resource
and Planning.

 Human Resource Management refers to the


application of principles of management to
manage the people working in the organization.
Human Resource Planning means a continuous
development function that intends to improve
the performance of people working in the
organization.

 HRM is management function. HRP is subset of Human


Resource Management.

 Function of HRM is reactive whereas function of HRP is


proactive.

 Objective of HRM is to improve the performance of the


employees. Objective of HRP is to develop the skills,
knowledge and competency of employees.

Differences Between HRM and HRP:


The significant differences between HRM and HRP are
discussed in the following points:

 Human Resource Management refers to the application


of principles of management to manage the people
working in the organization. Human Resource Planning
means a continuous development function that intends
to improve the performance of people working in the
organization.

 HRM is a function of management. Conversely, HRP falls


under the umbrella of HRM.

 HRM is a reactive function as it attempts to fulfil the


demands that arise while HRP is a proactive function,
that meets the changing demands of the human
resource in the organization and anticipates it.

 HRM is a routine process and a function of


administration. On the other hand, HRP is an ongoing
process.

 The basic objective of HRM is to improve the efficiency


of employees. In contrast to HRP, which aims at
developing the skill, knowledge and competency of
workers and the entire organization.
