3. Psychomotor: Write three-digit in expanded form

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Writing Three-Digit Numbers in Expanded Form
B. References: Mathematics Grade II
C. Materials: Flash cards, Pictures

III. PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES

Daily Routine:

1. PRAYER
“Ok class, before we start
our lesson for today, I want

class?” “Yes, Ma’am.”

3. CHECKING ATTENDANCE

“Very Good.”

4. SITTING OF CLASS

you will cooperate with
that.”

ASSIGNMENTS
“Yes Ma’am.”
“Class do we have an
assignment?”

“Bring out your

assignments and pass it in
front without making
noise.”
“Yes Ma’am.”
“Are all the assignments
are here?”

“Very Good.”

6. DRILL “Yes Ma’am.”

“Does anyone of you know
what is place value?” • “The place value is the
position of each digit in a
“So what is place value?” number. The place value
of digits is determined as
ones, tens, hundreds,
thousands, ten-thousands
and so on.”

“Very good!”

“Now that you know the

place value, here’s what
we’re going to do.”

“Class, tell me the correct

answer as I flash the
number cards, okay?” “29”

1. 2 tens and 9 “68”

ones=_______
2. 6 tens and 8 “83”
ones=_______
3. 8 tens and 3 “52”
ones=_______
4. 5 tens and 2 “47”
ones=_______
5. 4 tens and 7
ones=_______
(Students clapping.)
“Excellent, class.”

“Give yourself a clap for

doing a good job.”

7. REVIEW
“Okay class, let’s have a
recap or review about our
lesson yesterday.”

“Who can give the lesson

that we’ve study “Ma’am our lesson yesterday was

100’s.”

“Very good.”
“Now who can still
remember on how to skip “Ma’am, 5, 10, 15,20….”
count by 5’s?”

“Very Good.”
“Ma’am, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50….”
“How about 10’s?’

“Alright.”

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES

1. MOTIVATION

“A library.”

“What is in the picture?”

“They read books and research for
“Okay, what are the children their assignments.”
doing in the library?”
“Books.”
“What are the things found in “Dictionaries.”
the library?” “Newspapers.”

“That’s right, class.”

C. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON

“How many Mathematics “There are 576 books in the

books are there in the library?” Library.””

“How many were English “324 English Books”

books?
“476 Filipino books”
“Filipino books?”
“967 other book.”
“Other books?”

 Since, we have already know

about giving the place value of
each digit in a number. I hope that
you have learned to read and
write 3- Digits numbers in
symbols and in words and now
familiarize yourself to another
way of writing numbers because
that is our topic for today which is
the Expanded Form.

“So what is Expanded Form?” Any “No Ma’am.”

idea? What do you think it is
class?”

“Okay, the expanded form is a way

of writing the value of each digit in
a number corresponding to its
place value. It also helps to read
number quickly.”

“We write the number in

expanded form to show the value
of each digit.”

EXAMPLE:

125

“It can have written in Expanded

form to make it easier to read.”

“How do we write the expanded

form of 125?”
“First thing first is identifying the
place value of the 3-digit number.”

“We can use chart to identify the

place value of each digit.”

“In 125, every digit has place

value. The place value of 1 is
hundreds, the place value of 2 is
tens and the place value of 5 is
ones.”

HUNDREDS TENS ONES

1 2 5

100 20 5

“So the value of 1 is 100, the value

of 2 is 2o and the value of 5 is 5.”

“100+20+5=125, it is called the

expanded form.”

“Standard form is called when

numbers are arranged in this way
“125”, and expanded form is
called when the numbers are
arranged like this “100+20+5.” “Yes, No Ma’am.”
“So, the expanded form of 125 is
100+20+5.”

“Did you get it class?”

“Okay, I give you another

example.”

”647”
“The place value 6 is hundreds, the
place value of 4 is tens, and the
place value of 7 is ones.”

HUNDREDS TENS ONES

6 4 7

600 40 7

“Then the value of 6 is 600, the

value of 4 is 40, the value of 7 is 7.”

“So, the expanded form of 647 is

600+40+7.”

“Last example, 348.”

“How do we write the expanded
form of 348?”

HUNDREDS TENS ONES

3 4 8

300 40 8

“Let us identify the place value of

each number, the place value of 3
is hundreds, the place value 4 is
tens and the place value of 8 is
ones, so the 3 will be 300, 4 will be “Yes Ma’am.”
40 and is will be still 8.”

“So the expanded form of 348 is

300+40+8.”

“Now did you understand how to

write 3-digits in expanded form?”

“Very Good.”

“Let’s go back to the picture of

library and let us study on how to
write the expanded form.”

“There are 576 books in the

Library.””
“324 English Books”
“Again, how many mathematics “476 Filipino books”
books are there in the library?”
“967 other book.”
“How many were English books?”

“Filipino books?”

“Other books?”

 Okay, here are the number of

books again and study
 576 mathematics books
 476 Filipino books
 324 English books
 967 other books ”500 or hundreds”
“In 576, how many hundreds “7 tens or 70.”
are there?”
“6 ones or 6.”
“How many tens are there?”

“How many ones?”

“Alright.”

“The number 576 maybe

written in this way:
576 and this called the
standard form.”

“It can also be written as:

500+70+6=576 and this is HUNDREDS TENS ONES
called the expanded form.” 4 7 6
3 2 4
“Next is English books, write 9 6 7
them in the place value chart,
and write them in expanded 400+70+6
form.” 300+20+4
1. 476 900+60+7
2. 324
3. 967

“Okay I’ll give you 2 minutes to

do that”

“Okay time is up, lets us see if

you get the correct answers.”
“Very Good Class. It seems that
you are all ready for our
activity.”
